    Too much flex

The shoulder strap, unlike most shoulder strap designs in the world, is a neoprene pad with two straps sewn to either side of it, instead of one strap going all the way across that is just cushioned by neoprene. This means when I'm walking with my Aeronaut, there's enough flex and stretch in the neoprene that it bounces the bag up and down with my gait instead of keeping it at one level. I also had trouble with the strap's buckles sliding so that over a long day of travel with a not particularly heavy Aeronaut, the strap slowly got longer and longer and kept having to be adjusted.

If you're petite, think very carefully before you buy this strap!

I have loved every other Tom Bihn product I have ever purchased, but not this shoulder strap. Let me first say that it IS an extremely comfortable strap in terms of the wonderful squishy foam padded portion. But I have 3 problems with it:

    1) This one is the biggest problem. I am petite, and I want to be able to make the strap shortish, so I can use it as a shoulder strap and have my bag hit at a comfortable position on my hip. To achieve this, I want to be able to make the total strap length (from end of clip to end of clip) about 29 inches. However, if one runs the buckles all the way up next to the padded portion on this strap (so that the strap is doubled the whole way on either side of the center foam portion), the shortest this strap gets is 40 inches. One can make the strap shorter than that by having the buckles up next to the padded foam portion and then also pulling out the strap ends beyond the buckles to remove active strap length, but then one ends up with long, flapping, loose ends of strap on either side of the foam center part, and though I tried doing that for a bit, the long, flapping strap ends were very undesirable and got in the way. So the strap is just too long for me. I guess one solution might be to sell this strap in 2 sizes--short and long, with the minimum and maximum lengths each size could go to without pulling strap beyond the buckles noted--so that depending on the person's height or how they wanted to use the strap, they could get…

    Comfortable and shortens enough!

I was going to pass on this in favor of the standard strap, but after I tried it “just to see,” I was hooked… er, strapped (but in a good way). It was immediately more comfortable by comparison and could be shortened enough in length to better fit my 5’ 2” frame. Easy upsell!

    Awesome

Work well and comfy. My friend Ben Scheiner, who has passed, was a nut for packing. I mean this guy had it down to a science. Packing cubes and everything. Tom Bihn bags were an essential part of his traveling repertoire. Tom Bihn: Approved by my friend Ben.
