TLDR
The Yeoman Duffel Bag is a capacious duffel bag, cheerfully ready to schlep gear for your next adventure. It’s likely to become your #1 go-to bag for road trips, camping, and for handling excess gear that needs to fly as checked luggage.
- Unlike other TOM BIHN bags, which are made from flawless 1050d ballistic, the Yeoman is made of fabric that is what we call “seconds”; fabric that may have cosmetic blemishes which do not impact its utility or durability.
- Comfortable handles
- A big open space
- Four sizes from "pretty small" to "real big"
Full Description
Seconds but Not Seconds Durability
The Yeoman is built entirely from our U.S.-made 1050 denier high-tenacity Ballistic nylon—but unlike other TOM BIHN bags, which are made from flawless 1050d ballistic, the Yeoman is made of fabric that is what we call “seconds”; fabric that may have cosmetic blemishes which do not impact its utility or durability.
Here’s the thing: we are perfectionists around here, and what our fabric inspectors consider “seconds” isn’t necessarily what our fabric mills would consider seconds. When we receive ballistic nylon with flaws, it’s ours to keep: because we are one of the last consumers of domestic 1050 ballistic, our mills no longer accept returned goods. We don't receive much flawed fabric, but we've been saving up what we do get, waiting for the right idea to come along. And so it has: the Yeoman Duffel.
So it's highly likely that you will find some small cosmetic blemishes somewhere on your Yeoman Duffel, which may include irregular shading, a streak or lighter colored yarn, a small "slub" (a knot or thick spot in the yarn), or some unevenness in the urethane coating. These blemishes or flaws are strictly cosmetic in nature, and will not impact the Yeoman's utility or durability. These peculiarities are inconsistent and will vary from bag to bag, meaning no two will be exactly alike. This also means that while you can choose the color of your Yeoman Duffel, we cannot tell you what its unique personality will be: it's 100% potluck (kind of exciting, eh?).
Grab Handles Galore
The humble Yeoman has features that are more or less common to duffel bags, but with TOM BIHN attention to detail, materials, and aesthetics. Two-inch webbing handles snap together with a padded palm grip, top dead center; under that, a generous hatch opens wide with a #10 double slider zipper for easy access. When the time come to dislodge the Yeoman from an over-stuffed car trunk or baggage carousel, simple webbing loop handles on either end make it easy. Our proprietary, heavy-duty shoulder strap attachment points are ready to accept any shoulder strap you have around, or any of ours: for a bag that can get this heavy, we recommend the über-comfortable Absolute Shoulder Strap.
A Simple Duffel with Tough Construction

Two-inch webbing handles snap together with a padded palm grip, top dead center; under that, a generous hatch opens wide with a #10 double slider zipper for easy access. There are no pockets inside or out to confuse things, though there are five O-ring tether points: if you really want organization you can add some Organizer Pouches. The usual finished seams and stout bartacks complete the details.
The Sizes and How We've Used Them
Mini: Great for Car Gear (first aid and second aid pouches, snacks, chargers, sunscreen, water bottles. It can also be used as a basic needs overnight bag with a change of clothes, a few toiletries, and a phone charger. It's also the perfect size for hauling kid treasures: favorite blankets and stuffies nestle right in, and it's so easy to pop in Travel Stuff Sacks full of building blocks, card games, or any other little diversions).
Small: We know folks who use the Yeoman Duffel, Size Small as a golf bag or a small gym bag. We've used ours to pack food supplies for trips to the cabin. It's also great as a family day trip bag: pack your sunscreen, jackets, hats, binoculars, tablets, coloring books/art supplies, snacks, and be on your way.
Medium: The Medium is a great size for two people to share as a travel bag: let your stuff co-mingle, or use color-coded Packing Cubes to keep "mine" separate from "yours."
Large: We used our Yeoman Duffel, Size Large to pack and check on our flight (those lockable luggage sliders came in handy!) a three-person tent, four sleeping bags, four sleeping pads and a first-aid-kit for a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It can also hold enough linens for a queen sized bed: sheets, duvet/comforter, and two pillows—perfect for toting to family reunions or holiday gatherings when you know there won't be enough bedding to go around.

This is the perfect size bag for a weekend. It's a no frills bag. It's exactly what I was looking for and the TB quality did not disappoint. Great add to my TB collection!

I've had this bag (Mini size) for a couple of weeks. Construction is solid, typical Tom Bihn standard. The coyote color is cool. It's a bomb-proof, basic, no-frills duffel, so if that's what you're looking for this will work nicely.
I used it to carry clothing and toiletries on a weekend car-camping trip and it was great, although a lot of folks might want to upsize one size for this purpose depending on how minimalist you travel.
I've also used it as my new gym bag on several occasions and it's great for that purpose. Again, the Mini might be small for some folks, especially if you're carrying larger shoes and a bunch of toiletries. But for a towel, workout clothes, water bottle, and some random personal items it's perfect for me.
For an idea as to sizing on the Mini, I was just able to bungee it to my rear bicycle rack. And it looks like it'll fit under the seat on a plane. So it could serve as an alternative to a small backpack if you're so inclined.
Recommendations:
I understand that this is a minimalist style duffel, but a small interior pocket or pouch of some sort would be helpful just to keep a few small items organized.
The carry handle is solid, but is very stiff and inflexible, and at least on the Mini feels a bit excessive. I compared it to the handle on my Aeronaut 45 and it appears to be the same handle (which is great on the Aero 45). So it may just be personal preference whether you think such an industrial strength handle is necessary on the Mini.

This is a nicely made bag as usual. Two things would make it better. First, the way the handle straps lock is backwards or upside-down, and not logical. Second, every bag should have a small zip pocket to secure valuables. Particularly for this amount of money.

I ordered the Mini Yeoman in "Forest". I think this is such a great, unique sized duffle bag. Perfect for an overnight stay or a gym bag. I did return it because the forest color was much more blue than expected. I will be re-ordering in black or burnt orange in the future, though!
