  • Everything you buy from us here at TOM BIHN is satisfaction guaranteed. We’ve been in business for over 30 years and we stand behind what we make.

If something goes wrong and it's our fault, we'll fix it for free. Repairs due to normal wear and tear or due to other things that are not our fault will be performed, when possible, at a reasonable charge right here in our Seattle factory where your bag was made. Defects in materials or workmanship are uncommon and almost always evident while the product is still new. Keep in mind that bags and packs are often subject to extreme wear in everyday use: do not expect them to last forever. Only true love lasts forever! You can expect a TOM BIHN product to give years and years of hard service.

    Face Masks
Our masks are satisfaction guaranteed. Please if you're happy with your mask *or* there's something that doesn't work for you. We want to hear from you!

  • Our bags and face masks are designed and cut & sewn right here in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.

That allows us to be control freaks in the best way possible; we have direct control and oversight of the quality of our materials, our products, and the jobs and working environment that we help create. It also offers us a unique spontaneity: when we have an idea for a new product or accessory, we can design it, figure out how to build it, add it to our website and be ready to ship it out our front door all within just a few weeks. How cool is that?

Intrigued? You can more about the unusual way we do business on our Company Philosophy page.

LIMITED DESIGN LAB EDITION: click here to jump to what's new in this Design Lab version of the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag.

The Packing Cube Shoulder Bag is a dual-purpose packing cube: in preparation for and during your journey, use it to organize and pack your clothing inside the Aeronaut, Tri-Star, or Western Flyer — just like how you'd use our Packing Cubes. When you reach your destination and it's time to leave your main travel bag in the hotel or hostel, repack the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag with a light jacket, wallet, phone, small water bottle, map, and add a shoulder strap: you're ready to go out and explore, and you've saved space by not having to bring a separate bag for day use.

Most folks who use our bags have at least one shoulder strap made by us, and thus we don't include a shoulder strap with the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag. If you would like a second shoulder strap for the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag, or simply a lighter shoulder strap, choose the optional 1" Shoulder Strap.

What’s new in this limited edition Design Lab Packing Cube Shoulder Bag:

Original Shoulder Strap Attachment Design
This edition of the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag features the original placement of the shoulder strap attachment points. That is to say, the shoulder strap attachment points are back on the narrow left and right ends of the bag, at the ends of the main zipper, rather than on the opposing front and back top corners.

#8 Water Resistant Racquet Coil YKK zipper
This zipper offers a bit more weather and abrasion resistance than the previous coil zipper.

Handy Pulls
We’ve snipped the metal zipper pulls off and replaced them with cord pulls so you don’t have to. Don't like 'em? Want to add some colorful Cord Pulls of your own? Just unknot the cord pulls (but put them somewhere safe, you might want to use them later!)

Design Lab Label

The Design Lab edition label is rectangular and slightly smaller than our original label. It has a black background with dark grey text in the foreground; the text is TOM BIHN followed by Design Lab. Next to Design Lab, there are three dots — the therefore sign.

Think of bags with the Design Lab label as our experimental side projects — sometimes they’ll be bags we just wanted to make for our own use (Nik designed the Shadow Guide largely for himself) and sometimes they’ll be variations of designs you've requested. Design Lab bags might be made out of limited edition or small batch fabrics or materials; they might be totally utilitarian or akin to a bag-version of some head-scratching experimental jazz.

Regardless of any of that, Design Lab offerings may or may not become regular offerings, and depending on the quantity we’re able to make, they may or may not sell out quickly. We're not trying to be coy; it's simply that we need to focus our production capacity on what people are most interested in.

A (possible) new material: Cerylon 6,6 210d

Cerylon (in Cobalt Blue) is a potentially new 100% nylon 6,6 fabric 210d fabric. Per our request, the mill made Cerylon with twisted yarns just like our heavier weight fabrics — twisted yarns increase the density of a fabric and help to hide cosmetic abrasion. Cerylon has a formidable tear strength (though it’s not quite as high as Halcyon) that is more than adequate for its intended use as a fabric for lightweight accessories (like this Packing Cube Shoulder Bag) or as a lining material. It has a “double wall” ripstop pattern, which we’ve added mostly as an aesthetic nod to its near-kin Halcyon.

After Cerylon prevailed through our typical and rigorous fabric tests, we ordered a small sample yardage of this material from our mill to make additional sample bags for more folks to use in real-world situations. Usually, we make those sample bags for the crew here at TOM BIHN, friends, family — whoever expresses and interest and happens to be around when these projects manifest into reality. At this point in the process, we’ve already tested the integrity of the fabric: the intention behind getting more sample bags out into the world is to gather more subjective experience around the experience of the fabric itself — the hand of the fabric, its aesthetic implications, in what designs it’ll shine, and so on.

This time, thanks to our Design Lab series, we’ve decided to use the sample yardage of Cerylon to make bags for *you*. We’re pretty crazy about Cerylon after using it ourselves, but we haven’t yet decided whether we’ll place a full order for it. This may be the one and only chance to order a bag in Cerylon.
