New Color Alert! Meet Bordeaux 420d Spectron

It’s official! We’re excited to introduce our brand new 420d Spectron color: Bordeaux. Inspired by the smooth, bold flavors of red wine from the Bordeaux region of France, it’s deep, it’s moody, it’s a mature burgundy blend that isn’t afraid to be striking.

It evokes images of freshly cracked pomegranates, the stain of a cabernet on a white tablecloth, or a rich pot of coq au Vin. It’s aromatic, a little tart, and unapologetically Bordeaux.

So, bienvenue Bordeaux – we’re so happy you’re here!

Meet Bordeaux

Selecting our next 420d Spectron shade was no easy choice. When deciding on a new color, we wanted to revisit some old (and new!) favorites. Samples included a return to Sapphire Cordura, an evolution of Dusk Cerylon, a reimagination of Nightwalk 400d Halcyon, but ultimately, Bordeaux stole our hearts.

Bordeaux compared in soft, natural light. From Left: Raspberry, Red Blend, Açaí, Moab, and Bordeaux.

Compared to Red Blend, Bordeaux’s closest counterpart, it reads warmer, with subtle brown undertones that lend it a richer, more understated character. Next to Raspberry, it feels more restrained – desaturated and mature, trading brightness for depth. Against Açaí, Bordeaux is richer and weightier, with fewer purple notes and a more classic red presence. And compared to Moab, it’s less earthy and muted, leaning smoother and more refined rather than rugged.

Like many of our shades, Bordeaux is transformative. In low light, Bordeaux and Red Blend can seem indistinguishable. Step into daylight, and the differences speak for themselves.

One more interesting note on Bordeaux – the grid is ever so slightly larger than the original 420d Spectron, making it visually closer to the OG 400 Halcyon.

When it came to naming, “bordeaux” and “oxblood” immediately came to mind. Ultimately, we chose to stay true to our red-themed naming tradition – alongside shades like Red Blend and Sangria – and landed on Bordeaux, inspired by the wine from the French region.

We’re introducing Bordeaux in a select number of products with limited color variants to maintain operational efficiency. Eventually, we will integrate Bordeaux 420d Spectron into our other bags, so hold tight!

Bordeaux is available to shop now in the following products:

We hope Bordeaux steals your hearts as much as it stole ours. Whether you’re drawn to its depth, its versatility, or the way it shifts with the light, Bordeaux is a color meant to be carried and lived with over time – growing richer with every mile, like a finely aged bottle of wine.

Seeing this makes me appreciate my raspberry backpack even more!

LOVE! Already ordered a few pieces and can’t wait to see it on other bags. I hope to see more spectron offerings in the future — it’s a beautiful lightweight fabric.

Love this color and would like to see it in the Pop Tote but the lining color choice is not working for me. Couldn’t it just be black or dark gray inside? Or Bordeaux inside too? The brown is bleh. Sorry.

I appreciate the swatch comparisons, but I think the fact that you already have so many similar reds to compare this one to should have been a clue that this wasn’t the color to go with. Did people really ask for another red? Why not choose something new and fresh? It’s just like when you launched Kelpie, and it was so similar to Sitka. It doesn’t make sense why you’re making so many overlapping/slightly different colors, when there are big gaps in your color range that could be filled. This would have been great in a dark turquoise, or a blurple like Selkie but darker. (It also doesn’t help that you picked a lining color that makes it look like a Target uniform)

Great new spectron color, but disappointing that every bag option is paired with coyote.
