I figured it was time to upgrade from my Maker's Bag, and the Trinity was finally here....
I will say this, it has brought more order to my life that I ever expected. Everything has a place -- and my laptop is neither loose nor protected by stiff padding that made it hard to carry as an everyday messenger. I think they pulled it off. As a "personal item" carry-on it is perfect under the seat; it makes my endless in-flight juggling of devices and cables and batteries and snacks quick and efficient.
It is very expensive, though, compared to other options. Arguably, it's a bag that doesn't need all the extra bibs and bobs you need to get a Maker's Bag to be a reasonable analogue, but even a fully kitted out Maker's Bag with organizers and cubes and pouches is much cheaper. For me, it was worth it, but definitely something to consider before you pay the money for it.
Also, don't expect it to be a great backpack. I've used "convertible" packs in the past, and they all are mediocre backpacks at best. I'm disappointed they didn't put more into the pack straps (more padding, more stability), but for me the straps are an "in a pinch" form factor (like needing your hands free). If you're buying this primarily for the backpack form factor, be aware.
On the whole, I'd 100% buy it again and you can pry it from my cold, dead fingers. But ask yourself if you need this much structure and ease of use. This is the best structured Tom Bihn bag, but I got a lot of life out of my Maker's Bag…

1-3 nights of work on the road? This is my go-to bag. Just enough room for a couple of outfits and my travel tech. Great organization/pockets. It’s pricey, but worth every cent.
The backpack straps don’t work for me (I’m 6’6, and they cut into me and are pretty uncomfortable), but I prefer it with the absolute shoulder strap anyway.

I really love my Trinity. I have using a backpack for a while for work commuting on bike, but prefer a shoulder bag for use at work (I work doing advocacy for a nonprofit working on global hunger and I lobby Capitol Hill. I also always seek to support LOCAL handmade whenever and companies that treat workers well, whenever possible, from my coffee to clothing. In July 2025 I discovered that United Airlines has imposed new, smaller dimension restrictions for the personal item carry on to fit under the seat (well, at least to me, having not flown on United for quite a while): 17" x 10" x 9". I don't know how strictly they will enforce that, but I don't want to risk it.
Usually I bring my Synik 30 or Synik 26, for my computers, headphones, book, etc. I was going to order a Bixi, but that too would be too large. Of course, many Tom Bihn bags can be squished down to fit if you remove their frame sheets and under fill them. A Night Flight would fit exactly, and would be good if it were redesigned to allow the end pockets to zip open from the inside to make them part of the main compartment, but I would not be able to use it as a backpack once at my destination. My Synik 22 could be under filled just a bit and squished just a bit.
But my Trinity need be squished only a tiny bit in height, and need be under filled in only the depth. It has the big benefit of the shoulder straps being tucked away so not to entangle while I am boarding and de-boarding the plane and while on the plane. It holds 21 liters, only one liter less than the Synik 22. The Trinity's volume is in larger pockets, instead of the Synik's being split among many small pockets; for everyday carry I prefer the Synik for that reason, but for cramming clothing in a bag, the Trinity's bigger pockets are much better.
