The Cache is a protective laptop or tablet sleeve that's available in many sizes. It's designed to protect your device against scrapes and scratches and can be used on its own inside of any bag or clipped securely inside of our Cadet and Empire Builder briefcases, Synapse 25, Synapse 19, Brain Bag and Smart Alec backpacks and Tri-Star and Pilot travel bags, transforming them into checkpoint-friendly laptop bags.

The Cache protects your laptop or tablet with little bulk added and is ideal for those who don't want their device case to make their loads heavier or to take up a lot of space. It cradles your device in .25" / 6 mm thick foam padding laminated with an exterior of heavy-duty polyester knit and an interior of brushed tricot. With no noisy Velcro® or zipper, the Cache closes by simply tucking a generous flap into the top opening.

Here's something worth noting: the Cache is designed to be a snug fit for just a laptop or tablet. If you use a thin plastic case on your device, we suggest you measure your device with the case on to determine (or help us determine) if you need to order the next size up of Cache.

On the back (or bottom, depending how you look at it) of the Cache are two parallel "rails" of 1" wide, lightweight nylon webbing which extend from the top to the bottom. (Note: the Cache tablet sizes iPad Mini, Tablet 121, Tablet 131, Tablet 194 and Tablet 198 do not have rails.)

Included with the Cache are two removable Gatekeeper Rail Clips. To attach the Cache to one of our larger bags with the compatible rail loops (Synapse 25, Synapse 19, Brain Bag, Smart Alec, Tri-Star, Cadet), simply unclip the side of the Gatekeeper Rail Clip that isn't clipped to the Cache, slip it through the webbing rail loops in the larger bag's main main compartment, and flip it shut. Slip the Cache inside the larger bag, and pull it back out: you'll see that the Gatekeeper Rail Clips ride the rails of the Cache, allowing you to remove your laptop from the from the larger entirely while it is still encased in the protective Cache. Here's a handy video we made all about it. 

Doing this at the airport security checkpoint means the X-ray machines (and TSA personnel) will have a clear, unobstructed view of your laptop — allowing you to keep your laptop in the Cache and the whole affair securely held together as one unit. (We think that's much better than having to remove the laptop and dump it in one of those buckets.)

Most of us will appreciate this functionality on a daily basis as well: the rail system can be a convenient and quick way to remove one's laptop from the bag.
