    Worth it!

I just put this on my Synik 22. At first I thought it might be overkill for a small pack. But it really helps distribute the weight better, without adding too much more weight or bulk.

    Now I'm stylin'

I purchased a new Small Cafe bag. Instead of putting my old Sidekick out to pasture, I got this hip belt so I could repurpose it to use when I ride my bike or hike. I fear I may be turning into my mother, but I am loving the fanny pack lifestyle!

My one suggestion might be to make these in different lengths, because as a smaller person when I tighten I have a lot of of excess to tuck in.

    Save your back and shoulders

I resisted hip belts for a long time on my daily carry bag, because they're a little bulky and just more awkward sometimes. But I've known the value for a long time -- hikers and backpackers know you just can't carry a heavy load on your back for long distances without transfering some weight to your hips. The webbing belt is ok, but these padded hip belts are so much better, especially as I get older and need to protect my back and shoulders. They're easy to get on and off if I want to remove them, but I usually leave them on. They're very comfortable and do a great job of transferring weight from the pack onto the hips to save my back, neck, and shoulders. I recommend them.

    Unworkable

I had high hopes for being able to easily convert my Side Kick bag into a fanny pack for a hiking trip. Unfortunately, the clips on this Gatekeeper hip belt are way too difficult to use. I complained to Customer Service and their response was that, if I keep using the clips then over time, the clips become less stiff – or I could return the $12 item for a refund, minus the $10 processing fee (since it was more than 60 days since I placed the order). So much for the satisfaction guarantee! I am not going to keep using the clips because I can't even remove them from my bag without help from someone stronger than I am , or with a tool. So, that was a waste of $12. The conversion belt was a great idea, but poor execution.

Hi Emily! Sorry to hear that your having trouble with the Gatekeeper Clips! Often times using a two handed method can make removing them easier. What we recommend is use one hand to push the silver loop forward so it clears the black hook at the top of the clip. Once the silver loop is pushed out of the way, it should be easier to press the black hook down with your other hand. Once pushed down, the silver loop can pass over the top of the black hook, which will open the clip.
