New color alert! Moab 200d Halcyon

The Everyday Cubelet in Moab 200d Halcyon fabric, a deep reddish-brown color with a white grid pattern.

You’re at your campsite somewhere in the desert of the Southwest. It’s late evening and the clear sky is dark blue — the moon is full, the stars are out. You’re looking up at a sandstone cliff and it looks different than it did in the daylight... it's unreservedly deeper, richer, more red, appearing as it does in the almost-dark.

That was the inspiration behind our new Moab 200d Halcyon.

This color is something of a departure for us. As you can see, most of our Halcyon colors are rich, saturated, bright, cheerful. Moab, on the other hand, is deep, rich, grounding — it’s not brown, not red, it’s the color of cliffs in the desert night.

It pairs well with most of our exterior colors, offering an option that can slip its way into the palette of most collections.

Like many of our colors, it was custom-dyed just for us. And, like many of our colors, it appears different in different lighting conditions — when we receive a “lab dip” color from our mill, they give us three swatches to choose from, each a very very slight variation of our original request. With Moab, we looked at the swatches under the bright factory lights, outdoors on sunny and cloudy days, and at night under the moon, eventually picking the just-right swatch. The differences were subtle, and some may say they weren’t all that much of a difference, but to us they were: the swatch we chose had just a little bit more red than the others.

Moab won’t be everyone’s color: we didn’t intend it to be. If it is the color for you, you’ll know it, and if it’s not, you’ll know that too.

Moab 200d Halcyon will debut in the following bags as part of our upcoming 1/7 Restock:

Synik 30
Synik 22
Side Kick
Side Effect
Everyday Cubelet

And it'll be offered in more and more bags over time. Wondering when Moab might be available in a specific design? Feel free to post a comment and ask (you'll be notified via email once we respond!)

I love this Moab color. I’m not a huge fan of Halcyon and really only Nightwalk turned me on (Tidal is growing on me too). BUT Moab, this easily takes the cake. I liked the earth tone of Taiga but it’s still falls kinda flat for me, but this Moab is the king.

I’d love to see it as the EXTERIOR for a HLTs, Side Kicks, Side Effects, Travel Trays, basically all your accessories please!

Tom, actually meant I can see the color Moab as an exterior color for the side kick bag. Is there a reason you’re using it more for interior colors ?

TOM BIHN replied:
Aha, now I understand. 200d Halcyon is typically used as a lining fabric for larger bags, or as an exterior fabric for smaller accessories that are more likely to be used inside of larger bags. While it’s a high quality, durable fabric, we don’t see it as being appropriate as an exterior on bags like the Side Kick. It has occasionally served as an exterior on the Side Effect, though. All that said, we are receiving requests for exterior-weight fabrics in a color like Moab, and it’s something we will consider.

I love colors that are “deep, rich, grounding”. I was aware of this for the first time when choosing artist pastels. I also like pops of bright colors but not too much. 400d as exterior would be wonderful too. As interior color pair with deep blue ballistic, navy parapack, ursa, wilderness (of course!).
Thanks for the update!

I’m kind of late to the party, but I’d like to add myself to the list of people who really loves this Moab color. I can’t quite pin down the color on my devices – to me it looks like maybe Brick, or Rust, or Pipestone – so it will be fun to see it in person (I plan to order it in an Everyday Cubelet). The earthy Halcyon colors are calming to me. Taiga, Coyote, and Northwest Sky are my favorites. I think the bright colors like Viridian, Solaris, Wasabi, and Ultraviolet are pretty awful. To each their own! I’m happy that all the colors are available for all tastes.

We were editing more photos of Moab today and couldn’t quite pin it down either! Like many of the colors we choose, it can look quite different in various lighting conditions, and within the context of other colors in the surrounding environment (or other bags!) Appreciate your honesty re: Viridian, Solaris and the others, glad you like the earthy colors, and thanks for recognizing the benefits of a variety of colors!

I can vision a small cafe bag in the new color Moab and would definitely buy one if it was available. I hope it’s considered in the future.

Small Cafe lined with Moab? We can picture that too. Maybe Night Walk/Moab….
