The Cache is designed to be used inside of a larger backpack, briefcase, messenger bag, or travel bag: it has no handles, no shoulder strap, nor a place to attach a shoulder strap. The Cache: Checkpoint Friendly The Cache meets the new TSA (Transportation Security Administration) "checkpoint friendly" guidelines for laptop bags, so you need not send your laptop through airport security x-ray machines unprotected. The Cache provides the TSA with a clear, unobstructed x-ray view of your laptop in the bag. You may also be interested in our Checkpoint Flyer checkpoint friendly bag. From the TSA Web site: "To help streamline the security process and better protect laptops TSA has recently encouraged manufacturers to design bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening. The Cache vs. the Brain Cell The Cache is designed to provide protection against scrapes and scratches. It slips inside of larger bags. The Brain Cell (like the Cache, available in Horizontal and Vertical) provides substantial laptop protection: inside the Brain Cell, your laptop hangs suspended, cradled in a sling of 8mm thick soft foam padding inside a 4mm hard corrugated plastic shell that protects from the front, back, and bottom. At the bottom of the plastic shell is affixed a strip of memory foam. The Brain Cell clips securely inside of our larger bags. The Cache has a slimmer profile than the Brain Cell, and on average weighs about eight ounces less. The Brain Cell provides significantly more protection for your laptop. The Brain Cell has handles and can accommodate an optional shoulder strap - The Cache has neither. Which one is right for you? That's your call. Some customers feel they don't need the extra protection that the Brain Cell provides, and prefer the slimmer profile of the Cache. Others feel that the investment that is their laptop warrants the extra protection that the Brain Cell provides.
