A good and strong, go-anywhere duffel bag.
The Yeoman Duffel Bag is a capacious duffel bag, cheerfully ready to schlep gear for your next adventure. It’s likely to become your #1 go-to bag for road trips, camping, and for handling excess gear that needs to fly as checked luggage.
The humble Yeoman has features that are more or less common to duffel bags, but with TOM BIHN attention to detail, materials, and aesthetics. Two-inch webbing handles snap together with a padded palm grip, top dead center; under that, a generous hatch opens wide with a #10 double slider zipper for easy access. When the time come to dislodge the Yeoman from an over-stuffed car trunk or baggage carousel, simple webbing loop handles on either end make it easy. Our proprietary, heavy-duty shoulder strap attachment points are ready to accept any shoulder strap you have around, or any of ours: for a bag that can get this heavy, we recommend the über-comfortable Absolute Shoulder Strap. There are no pockets inside or out to confuse things, though there are five O-ring tether points: if you really want organization you can add some Organizer Pouches. The usual finished seams and stout bartacks complete the details.
The Yeoman Duffel is available in four sizes:
What can't this size be used for?! It's a great bag for stowing car gear: first aid and second aid pouches, snacks, chargers, sunscreen, water bottles. It can also be used as a basic needs overnight bag with a change of clothes, a few toiletries, and a phone charger. It's also the perfect size for hauling kid treasures: favorite blankets and stuffies nestle right in, and it's so easy to pop in Travel Stuff Sacks full of building blocks, card games, or any other little diversions. Because it's made of tough 1050d Ballistic nylon, it can withstand being dragged around.
We know folks who use the Yeoman Duffel, Size Small as a golf bag or a small gym bag. We've used ours to pack food supplies for trips to the cabin. It's also great as a family day trip bag: pack your sunscreen, jackets, hats, binoculars, tablets, coloring books/art supplies, snacks, and be on your way.
You can fit a surprising amount of gear into the Yeoman Duffel, Size Medium. And, honestly, one of the great things about it is that you can unceremoniously toss stuff into it when you're in a rush. There's no small compartments or pockets on the inside to get in your way. Toss in your gear and go! The Medium is a great size for two people to share as a travel bag: let your stuff co-mingle, or use color-coded Packing Cubes to keep "mine" separate from "yours."
We used our Yeoman Duffel, Size Large to pack and check on our flight (those lockable luggage sliders came in handy!) a three-person tent, four sleeping bags, four sleeping pads and a first-aid-kit for a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It can also hold enough linens for a queen sized bed: sheets, duvet/comforter, and two pillows—perfect for toting to family reunions or holiday gatherings when you know there won't be enough bedding to go around.
The Yeoman is built entirely from our U.S.-made 1050 denier high-tenacity Ballistic nylon—but unlike other TOM BIHN bags, which are made from flawless 1050d ballistic, the Yeoman is made of fabric that is what we call “seconds”; fabric that may have cosmetic blemishes which do not impact its utility or durability.
Here’s the thing: we are perfectionists around here, and what our fabric inspectors consider “seconds” isn’t necessarily what our fabric mills would consider seconds. When we receive ballistic nylon with flaws, it’s ours to keep: because we are one of the last consumers of domestic 1050 ballistic, our mills no longer accept returned goods. We don't receive much flawed fabric, but we've been saving up what we do get, waiting for the right idea to come along. And so it has: the Yeoman Duffel.
So it's highly likely that you will find some small cosmetic blemishes somewhere on your Yeoman Duffel, which may include irregular shading, a streak or lighter colored yarn, a small "slub" (a knot or thick spot in the yarn), or some unevenness in the urethane coating. These blemishes or flaws are strictly cosmetic in nature, and will not impact the Yeoman's utility or durability. These peculiarities are inconsistent and will vary from bag to bag, meaning no two will be exactly alike. This also means that while you can choose the color of your Yeoman Duffel, we cannot tell you what its unique personality will be: it's 100% potluck (kind of exciting, eh?).

I’ve been a Bihn user since 2003 — perhaps 10+ bags, including a late 2017 A30. Got the Y44 to succeed the A30 — wanted something I could travel with half-full, so there’d always be room to stash a parka, a paperback, or a packet of hemp protein and I’d never again find myself in the position of having to double carry to accommodate these nonce items. I travel a LOT — anthropologist and consultant, based in Berlin, clients in California, heart in Japan — and I spend up to six months a year living out of a bag. The Y44 is hands-down the best intermodal travel bag I’ve ever used. No more zipper anxiety, no more jigsaw packing, no extraneous straps to snap on seat frames. The fact that it’s unlined and has no subpocketing is a big plus for me, both wrt packing strategy and total lifecycle: makes it much easier to imagine patching or decommissioning this bag … in 30 or 40 years. I added a homemade shoulder strap from 1/2” safety line. If I could suggest one tweak for the next iteration: perhaps make the carry handles 20 percent longer to accommodate shoulder carry when it’s at > 3/4 capacity. In softgoods as in all things, simplicity is the most difficult thing to achieve. The Yeoman’s to-the-bone design bespeaks an uncommon maturity in the TB design language. Do yourself a favor.

I ordered the mini Yeomen and was kinda nervous that I had ordered the wrong one. I just took it on my first trip and I have to say you feel the quality in the bag as soon as you unbox it. It is the perfect size for my needs. Easy to pack and carry around. I was given a compliment on my bag. The pictures do not do it justice. I'm looking at ordering another one or two. This bag is great for anyone who is into EDC things. I really enjoyed the curved zipper design. This was my first purchase from Tom Bihn but will not be my last.

I ordered the medium Yeoman duffel. It is perfect for week-long visits with my grandsons. I use two large and 1 small Techonaut/Aeronaut 45 packing cubes for my clothes. I also pack a small travel tray with a few essentials (hot spot, hair combs, bandaids, knee braces, extra contacts). My shoes also fit in. The Yeoman duffel is not too heavy for me to carry down 26 steps to the car. It saves me time, steps, and other bags. I feel good carrying it because I know how well made the bags are. I liked the choice of colors the bags came in, but am partial to blue…..hence the blue Yeoman. Can’t wait for more trips with my Yeoman duffel.

I love that TOM BIHN brought back their duffel bag. I got the small and it is the perfect size for 3-4 day trip. It is so well made and absolutely gorgeous. It is rugged enough for a hiking trip and beautiful enough for weekend in the city.

I upgraded to the Yeoman from my college-era Jansport for business travel. The sides are stiffer than my previous bag which helps while packing. The snap button handle is very thoughtful and comfortable to handle. The bag fits everything I need for an entire week of travel, plus an extra pair of shoes, and in an emergency it can fit underneath the seat in front of me while on an airplane, along with my Cadet. My only concern is that the ballistic nylon might crack over time, but my experience with Tom Bihn products tells me it will age like well.
