Description
Stowaway Packing Cubes come in one size: when full, two will sit nicely side-by-side inside any of the three main compartments in the Stowaway convertible travel bag/backpack. And most folks will likely only want two, to fit in the back/bottom compartment. However, since all three compartments are the same size, you could use four or even six of them if you wanted to get super organized.
Though these cubes are small, they have proven to be quite useful. Each one can accommodate roughly the equivalent of three cotton T-shirts – consider socks and underwear in one, and maybe one or two folded shirts/blouses in the other. Of course, you could use them for things other than clothes.
Stowaway Packing Cubes are only available in solid Aether fabric. Aether is an ultra-light, 100% nylon fabric from Japan. It has a unique and somewhat complex construction, combining 30 denier monofilament with both 100 denier and 200 denier yarns in a micro-ripstop weave that further increases its tear strength. Like most of our fabrics, Aether is coated on the backside with urethane for weather resistance, and is surface-treated with durable water repellant. Though its hand is a bit crisp when new, we greatly prefer Aether's aesthetic over commonly available silicone-coated nylons. It's light, but surprisingly tough.
Aether is a very light fabric, useful for those trying to save weight wherever possible. We've found that it's ideal for Packing Cubes and other travel accessories. Aether is more-or-less translucent, though the opacity varies by color. That means that it's possible to see the contents of the cube even without a mesh panel.
We’ve shaved off even more weight by using #3 YKK coil zippers, and binding the internal seams with Aether fabric as well. Together we’ve reduced the weight of all the Packing Cubes by about 40%—not bad, eh? Aether Cubes will require a tad bit more gentle treatment, but we think most people will find the weight savings worth it.
