The Guardian Dual Function Light is what Tom found after an extensive search for a safety/utility light that would meet or exceed his requirements. Our Guardian DF Lights are rugged, easy to use, and work as either flashing safety beacons or interior bag lights. We choose to offer only the "Made in Canada" models of Guardian Light: they're built to military/law-enforcement specifications, and we promise they're worth your hard-earned money. We think you'll love 'em.

Dual function means you can choose between a steady or flashing light, and switching from one to the other is easy. Simply twist the lens counterclockwise until it comes off, then tap the lens on a solid surface so the battery comes out. Flip the battery over, replace the lens, and you've either just switched from flashing to steady or steady to flashing.

The Guardian Dual Function Light uses two CR2032 batteries, which offer 20 hours of use in steady function and 120 hours of use in flashing function. The life of the actual LED light inside the Guardian Dual Function Light is 44+ years.

The Guardian Dual Function Light is available in Red or White: the white is brighter than the red, but the red is better as a safety beacon. And your night-adjusted eyes don't need to readjust after exposure to red light like they do after white light, but you already knew that.

The Guardian Dual Function Light is highly impact resistant, omnidirectional, and waterproof to 300' (90m). It features an operational range from -40 to 122 °F (-40 to 50 °C). It can be seen for over 3 miles / 5 km in the dark.

The Guardian Dual Function Light is available in two versions:

Original Base (interior bag light)
The Guardian DF Light Original Base — paired with its included TOM BIHN–made lanyard — makes for a handy interior bag light: clip the lanyard and light to one of the O-rings inside of our larger bags. Guardian DF Light Original Base can also mount to 1" / 25 mm or 1.5" / 38 mm webbing; however, the Guardian DF Light Original Base mount is not as secure as the Guardian DF Light Strap-Mount.

Strap-Mount (exterior safety light)
The Guardian DF Light Strap-Mount features a clever base that allows you to mount the light securely to either a 1" / 25 mm or a 1.5" / 38 mm webbing (strap). This is great for those who will use their Guardian DF Light primarily as an exterior light or safety beacon. For a forward-facing light, you can mount it on the 1" / 25 mm webbing of your backpack shoulder strap, or mount it anywhere along a 1.5" / 38 mm shoulder strap for a shoulder bag or messenger bag. For safety from vehicles approaching from behind there are numerous potential attachment points on the backside of most backpacks and other bags, TOM BIHN or otherwise. Note that the Brain Bag, Smart Alec, and Synapse 25 all have webbing loops added to the front designed specifically to work with the Guardian DF Light Strap-Mount.

You can also attach a Guardian DF Light Strap-Mount to your dog's 1" / 25 mm collar or harness and set the light to flashing mode for added nighttime visibility and safety. We also offer a version of the Guardian DF Light Strap-Mount with a coyote-brown base designed to pair nicely with our Skookum Dog (the TOM BIHN line of dog gear!) collars.

Note: There is a made-in-China consumer version of the Guardian Light available for sale online. We don't offer that light here; only the Guardian Light made in Canada to military/law-enforcement specification is sold through our website.

Keep in mind that bags and packs are often subject to extreme wear in everyday use: do not expect them to last forever. Only true love lasts forever!
