The logo ball cap is certainly ubiquitous, if not downright rampant. Of course, there’s a reason for that—it can provide protection from both sun and cold, and are (for better or worse) pretty much acceptable attire in almost any milieu these days. Easily packed inside your backpack or luggage, you can take a cloth cap with you everywhere.

When we decided to have our own caps made, we found a manufacturer who can make what’s got to be one of the best cloth caps in the solar system. It’s lightly structured through the front two panels with a thin buckram, so it’s not a totally schlumpy cap, but it's not that stiff “trucker” style either. Far from a schwag giveaway, our cap has the quality and gravitas you’d expect from us.

Ours is a traditional six-panel ball cap style with a moderate brim that's lined with the same fabric from which the cap is made; the button on the top is self-fabric covered as well.

It's available in either organic cotton twill (TOM BIHN or Skookum Dog logo) or wool melton (TOM BIHN only) —think summer hat and winter hat. The cotton version requires little explaining, as most cap people have at least one around that’s more or less similar. The melton wool version is more unique, and has the look and feel of an old-school baseball cap. If you live near the equator or anyplace without much of a winter, you might want to forego the wool version. But if you live or travel to somewhere that gets cold or even just damp or windy, you might find you love the wool one. Eventually you might want both.

A simplified variation on our Farman Jabiru airplane logo is embroidered on the left front (right side as you’re looking at it from the front). And around the arch of the back closure we’ve embroidered our tagline, “The Going Is Good.” Both are done in color-matched thread: the embroidery doesn’t scream, but does show up nicely. On the Skookum Dog cap, there's color-matched embroidery: Skookum Dog logo on the front, "Good and Strong" on the back.

This is a one-size-fits-most cap: the back adjustment is a self-fabric strap with an elegant gunmetal buckle.

Defects in materials or workmanship are uncommon and are most often evident while your bag is still new. Keep in mind that daypacks and briefcases are often subject to serious wear in everyday use. We often see TOM BIHN bags that are still solid and in use after five, ten, fifteen, even twenty or twenty-five years, with minor repairs needed here or there. But remember: only true love lasts forever.
