PPB Post Preview for the Forums

TOM BIHN crew members inspecting a Luminary 12 and Luminary 15.

Note: we originally planned to publish this post on the main page of our blog today; it promises a date of February 12th for the Luminary pages going live. Because of a possible winter storm in the Seattle area that could result in power outages and the roads being too sketchy for our crew to safely make it in to work, we may need to delay the launch of the Luminary pages. Because the launch date is in question, and because we still wanted to share these details with our Forum community, we're publishing this post as a page and providing the link to the Forum community only for the time being.

The Luminary 12 and Luminary 15 Pre-Order have been scheduled!

Here's the timeline for their debut:

Here's a reminder on how our pre-order system works.

February 12th is just days away, but for those of you who've been waiting for months for the updated Luminary 12 and the new size Luminary 15, we thought we'd offer some details to think on between now and then.

Additionally, ever since we first mentioned our pre-production batch (PPB) system in our Pre-Order FAQ ("I placed a pre-order and it shipped earlier than expected! Nice. How’d that happen?"), several of you asked for us to share more about the PPB process and we decided the Luminary 12 and 15 PPBs would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Note: the detailed why and how behind these features and updates will be shared in another blog post to be published early next week.

What, you may be asking, is the pre-production batch (PPB)?

A pre-production batch (PPB) of any new design is ordered and completed by our production department prior to the new design being offered for pre-order.

The PPB is intended to:

Please note that the design itself is tested and every detail finalized and approved by Tom, Nik, Lisa, and Fong long before the PPB is ordered. PPB bags are in no way “beta” or incomplete.
