All About Cork

Cork is a aesthetically pleasing material, but what is it? How is it harvested? Visit Wikipedia and read the entry on Cork, or read on for a few interesting Cork facts pulled from the entry.

* The sustainability of its production and the easy recycling of cork's products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.

* Recently cork has also been used in rocket technology due to its fire resistance. (Note: This doesn't mean your Cork Organizer Pouch is fireproof. Don't try it at home, or anywhere else!)

* Cork can also be used as bricks for the outer wall of a house. (Note: We don't recommend building a house with the Cork Organizer Pouch.)

* Oak woodlands in Spain and Portugal, known as dehesas or montados, have been used to produce cork and graze livestock for hundreds of years, making them a haven for wild birds.

* Harvesting of the cork bark is performed by hand, and does not harm the tree. After harvest, a new layer of cork bark will grow again, and the tree will be ready for harvest again ten years later.

* Cork trees are not regarded mature enough for bark harvesting until they are at least 25 years old.

The Cork Organizer Pouches are made out of real cork fabric on the front side, and 1000 denier Cordura fabric on the back side. Noted for its distinctive and unique (no Cork Organizer Pouch looks exactly alike due to variations in the wood) wood patterns, cork is also known for the sustainability of its production. Oak woodlands in Spain and Portugal, known as dehesas or montados, have been used to produce cork and graze livestock for hundreds of years, making them a haven for wild birds. Plus, it just looks really cool.

The Cork Organizer Pouches will add an extra pocket of organization to any bag. They're also great for storing small electronics: Mini fits the iPhone perfectly and Small fits the Nintendo DS Lite. We've made sure the Cork Organizer Pouch has a #5 YKK coil zipper with a plastic slider so that it's less likely to damage sensitive elctronic gizmos.

Using a small-but-tough plastic snaphook, the pouches attach to the "o" rings (put there so that the Key Strap included in most bags can attach to them) that can be found inside TOM BIHN backpacks, messenger bags, briefcases, tote bags, travel bags, and laptop bags.

If you have some other bag, that's ok — just don't use the little plastic snaphook on the pouches or break it off.

Cork Organizer Pouches are available in sizes Mini ($10), Small ($15), and Large ($20).
