The Little Swift is a smaller version of our Swift and Swift in Cork tote/shoulder bags. Originally designed for
knitters and crafty types, The Swift was designed by Tom in collaboration with the readers of
Knitty® magazine.
Since its debut, the Swift has become popular among knitters and non-knitters alike
seeking a uniquely styled tote/shoulder bag. Tom noticed that many of the women who work
at TOM BIHN and carry Swifts didn't always need a bag as large as the Swift. On some days,
a smaller version would work better. And the Little Swift was born.
Around the same time that Tom began resizing the Swift to become the Little Swift, he was
experimenting with a number of new materials - one of which is now available in the Little Swift
for the first time amongst any TOM BIHN bags.
On Cork and Vulcana Hemp/Recycled Rubber
Cork Cork fabric is a durable, gorgeous material made from real cork bark from Portugal. Cork fabric holds
up exceptionally well over time, and the patterns in it will deepen and become richer with age.
Because of the variation in the Cork fabric, no two Little Swifts in Cork will be alike.
The sustainability of its production and the easy recycling of cork's products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.

Vulcana Hemp/Recycled Rubber
New and exclusive to the Swift, this material produced in the U.S.A. is made
from post-consumer recycled tires with a bonded overlay of sustainable hemp. We tested this fabric extensively (ourselves
and with a team of volunteer testers) for everything from durability to smell. The results? This
fabric - though with a look of delicacy due to fine strands of hemp standing out that one tester likened to
a raw silk look - is durable and extraordinarily unique. Note: as it's made out of recycled rubber, this
fabric does have a slight rubber smell at first. We don't find it noticeable, but we'd be glad to
send you a swatch if you'd like to smell for yourself.
Inside the Little Swift are two clear Urethane pockets backed with Japanese-made
Dyneema/nylon ripstop fabric, custom produced for us. The pockets mirror each other,
and they close with tough #8 YKK zippers.
Above one of these pockets
you'll find an "o-ring" with a key snap attached. On each end of the
interior of the bag is another "o-ring." This
"o-ring" is designed to
allow you to clip the included Small Stuff Sack
to either the left or
right side of the bag.
(Or, if you choose to purchase an extra Regular, Tall, or Small
Stuff Sack, Clear Organizer Wallet or Clear, Padded, or Cork Organizer Pouches, both "o-rings"
can be utilized.)
The Small Stuff Sack,
made out of the same Dyneema rip-stop fabric that
backs the clear Urethane pockets of the Little Swift, is great for organizing make-up, toiletries,
or jewelry. It can also accommodate a large ball
of yarn. It has a drawstring top, and it includes a feature that
knitters will
immediately notice as indispensable: a snap open/close grommet through which one can
feed yarn.
The tote design of the Little Swift allows its contents to be easily found:
you'll never have to waste time searching inside deep caverns for
small lost items. A button closure
secures the top of the bag, which, unlike a zipper, won't fray yarn
or projects. The handles are the
ideal length for carrying in hand or on
the shoulder, with the highest-quality Poron foam padding them.
