Thanks, Tom! I'm going to be spending about six weeks in China this summer, so these tips will come in handy. Last year I stayed in a hotel in the outskirts of Guangzhou that cost me about 25 dollars a night. It was clean as a whistle, no one on the front desk spoke a word of English, and the antiseptically clean bathroom featured a squat-style toilet. This time I'm aiming for a throne style commode and perhaps a bit of English in the staff, but a similar price.
