No waist strap kind of defeats it's purpose. Isn't "side" the definitive word, not "shoulder".

I have an old plum one. I rarely use the waist strap.
I've been waiting for more colors to be available- can't wait to buy one of the new ones.

Dyneema definitely. The reason I went for the 3D Cube over the Side Effect was the weight difference. Make the latter out of dyneema and my resistance will crumble.

Me too! I've been vacillating between a wasabi 3d cube (too small really) and a steel packing cube shoulder bag (a little dull and a little too large really) as my holiday EDC bag on holiday, a Dyneema side effect, especially in wasabi, might just be perfect!

As with most Tom Bihn Bags and Accessories, a Waist Strap can always be added if anyone wish to use one, a built in waist strap on a bag adds unnecessary weight in places where most humans don't want to add it.

The Dyneema possibility is very very very exiting!

But, I have to ask if this was some kind of secret at the factory. I emailed CS a week or so ago and got a reply from Beau, who said he didn't know anything about a Side Effect without waist straps. Really? You said it was coming on the forum and in my opinion, that makes it public knowledge. I felt a bit jerked-around because of that, and have delayed placing my birthday order because I've been pouting. (I'm real mature that way. :-( )

It was totally a secret at the factory! Well, mainly because I didn't tell anyone about it. Oops. Things move fast around here, we got caught up in the details of the design of the new Side Effect, and I didn't give Beau a head's up -- my bad.

I'm hoping waist straps will still be an add-on option, and attachable like the waist straps on the Synapse & Smart Alec. Because I think waist straps are completely useless except when they're absolutely essential.
