New: Matterhorn Water Bottle

I see on the product page that you don't list this bottle as fitting in the co-pilot. Is that because of the height or the width of the bottle? I also see that Libery Bottleworks makes a smaller 24 oz size. Do y'all happen to know if the 24oz will fit in the co-pilot? I'm guessing not, but they look like interesting bottles, and I'm looking for something in the 20oz range that works well in the co-pilot. My 16oz Klean Kanteen is a good size, but if I can squeeze something with a little more capacity in, that'd be awesome.

Ok, now I have this one coming tomorrow and two more coming from REI. Love Liberty Bottleworks and Tom Bihn!

A warning: I just received a couple of bottles from Liberty Bottleworks -- the 24 and 36 oz BART map of San Francisco from their transit series. Both are sloppily printed with bits of the map cut off (different bits on each bottle), names of stops floating in space far from where they should be, words cut in half. Basically, terrible quality control. I've written to the company but no response yet. So buyer beware! And doubly so for Tom Bihn customers who are used to something close to perfection.

Yikes, that's not good. Can you update us when you hear from Liberty Bottleworks?

I just double-checked all of our Matterhorn Water Bottles and they look perfect to me, so cause for concern at least with our bottles.

Here's a photo. It's not such a great fit that we'd recommend it, but it works OK. Obviously the water bottle compartment won't zip shut with the bottle in it, but it's really the width that's more of an issue. I don't know for sure if the 24oz will fit in the Co-Pilot better but I think it would (if I had one here I'd try it for you!)

Thanks for the quick response, and photo too! I think I'm going to have to settle for 16-18 oz bottles. Probably better for keeping weight down anyway. A 24 oz water bottle really adds more weight than I realize.

autolycus, I think that the Co-Pilot would accommodate a 27-ounce Klean Kanteen IF you used the flat cap. I'd try it out for you but I don't have a flat cap.

Really?! I'll have to check that out when I get home. I put my 18oz sport capped Kanteen in there and it fit fine, but I can't imagine the 27oz fitting, even with the flat top. I didn't even think to try it. I'll try to remember to do that and take a photo for posting.

And this discussion raises another question that I will ask in a different sub-forum so as to stop my cluttering of the discussion of the nice-looking Matterhorn bottle! :)

It looks great as a bicycle water bottle. Do any of the testers have used it as such and if so does it fit into a standard water bottle holder?

It was too tall for my side load holder. I can see if it fits Rocky's top load tomorrow.

Hi Darcy,
I wrote to them a week ago at a couple of their posted customer service e-mail addresses. They claim to have a guarantee. I explained my concerns, told them that I'd love to get unflawed bottles if the two I received were just "typos," but otherwise I'd do a return.
They never acknowledged receipt of the e-mail and, obviously, never responded. So I'm pretty disappointed with Liberty Bottleworks.
But as long as you guys are checking their work and controlling the stock the physical bottle itself seems like a solid product.

It fits in, I cannot attest to how well it stays in during a ride. It isn't a great fit IMHO because the part that tapers is taller than where the bottle border has a curved area to fit it. It's possible that is would perform just fine though. Please excuse the mess, we just got back from a week at the lake and haven't put everything away yet.

Hmm, that's no good. I shared a link to this thread with the folks at Liberty Bottleworks.

And I think dorayme's Liberty Bottleworks bottle is the 24oz, FYI.

yes, mine is the 24oz. size, the sample size. I wasn't observant enough to realize that the Matterhorn bottle is a different size. :( Thanks Darcy for pointing that out.
