Saying good-bye to a good friend...

A co-worker of mine (whom I love and adore) is leaving our company at the end of the year. She's taken a new job at a start-up closer to home. She's really excited, and I'm happy for her. But boy, am I going to miss her.

So she's taking what she has left of her official vacation time, and taking the last handful of days off to go vacation in Costa Rica. So as her parting gift, I gave her my Tom Bihn Small Cafe Bag. On the days I'd brought it to work, she'd ooh and aah at it and talk about how it was the perfect size (she's only 5 feet tall).

Today, she told me she's been packing, and found that she could pack her iPad, Kindle, and iPhone all into her SCB. She said, "This is so much better than my last vacation, when I took a separate laptop bag with all the cables and cords and everything. This is so much better!"

I will miss her terribly. But now, I can be happy knowing she will be going to work with her Cafe Bag.

I know its difficult and it will be an adjustment for you. I'm sure you'll be just fine and you've made a great new friend. Giving her your SCB was a kind gift. What I really want to know is what color SCB are you going to replace it with? :)

To borrow from Rudyard Kipling - You're a better (wo)man than I am, Gunga Din! I don't think I could give up my cafe bag - extol its virtues to high heaven and give her the URL, sure - but to give it up? (It's mine, mine, I tell you, all mine!) On the other hand - that would allow me to order another one, wouldn't it? Hmmmmm . . . .

Supremely kind, given you didn't have time to order a new one and you loved the SCB you were gifting. A great gift from the heart is always cherished, as is the giver of the gift.

Thanks for the kind words. In all the years we worked together, the only time she really oohed and aahed over anything I had was when I got the Small Cafe Bag. In my head I thought I might get her her own as a birthday present or something, but I never got around to it because we don't celebrate birthdays here at our office, and I didn't want it to seem awkward.

I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I have a Medium Cafe Bag if I want, and for now, my daily purse is the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag, and it's working just fine.

But yeah, now I get to pore over the colors again and decide what I want when I'm ready to get a SCB again! ^_^
