Going, going, gone?

I was just reading the post regarding the imminent disappearance of Cafe bags in Punch because the Cordura fabric is no longer available. Would it be possible to have a special "going, going, gone" section informing us when a particular item is being retired? As you can tell, some of us on the forum are bag-obsessed and would seriously appreciate a heads-up when a particular bag or fabric color is going away.

I saw (at FB? Twitter?) that production will cease on the Small Shop Bag. That's the kind of thing people should know about before it's too late. Some people here were upset about the unannounced demise of the Ruck's Sack.

I think nearly all the colours except black, steel and crimson should be treated as limited edition. The standard advice on the forum has always been the same: as soon as you see a colour you like buy it!

That's good advice, that if one sees a bag in a color you like or a kind of bag you like, buy it. The problem is, for some of us, that Tom Bihn bags are a splurge that needs to be budgeted for in our overall budgets. (I know, I have nine bags myself that worked their way into our monthly budget!) If I knew that a particular bag or color that I wanted and that was 'in the queue' in our family budget was being discountinued, I would accelerate it in the queue. Does that make sense?

So, is this possible? It would be a nice way to reward those of us who participate in the forum by giving us 'first dibs' on sooon-to-be-discontinued items.

I have seen production news comments on Twitter, but Darcy mentioned that they were planning on discontinuing the Small Shop Bag in response to one of my forum posts last month:

I've put in an order for the large Shop bag in Iberian, but I'd also like to get the regular size Shop Bag in Iberian. The regular size Shop Bag is very convenient to carry rolled in the side pockets of the Synapse. Any chance of Iberian Dyneema pouches showing up soon?

I think we're only going to make the Large Shop Bag from now on - it's much more popular than the Regular Shop Bag. So, it's unlikely that the Regular will ever appear in Iberian.

We are going to offer a new type of Organizer Pouch soon: Dyneema! You will get to choose Steel, Solar, or Iberian in sizes Mini, Small, Medium, and Large. These should be available within a month or so.

I'll just mention that the Regular sized shop bag is an extremely convenient size to keep folded and carry along in one of the Synapse side pockets. YMMV

…and even crimson is not always available. Here's an exchange that took place in the Colors Available thread:

In my case it's not an issue because RED (I don't use the C word anymore around these parts) is always available, and always looks uberspiffy.

I hate to disillusion you, but even RED isn't always available. A friend ordered a Lux bag last year, and couldn't get this color; it hasn't been available in RED any time since then (at least 8 or 9 months, I think -- maybe closer to a year).
