Bait Bag

I logged on to post a quick review on a swift the I recently ordered for my daughter, but want to throw this suggestion for a new product into the ring: a bait bag for animal training.

These are the little bags that trainers can use to hold treats for ease of access when training. I've used a couple of different versions, but nothing is really working well.

Most bags a cheaply made and hard to keep clean. I really like the form factor of the "rosin" type bags, but can't find something that doesn't fall apart or lose treats in the "lining". I also want something that snaps shut, rather than a draw string, so that I can easily open and close it with one hand. Bags that stay open all of the time are no good, because the treats fall out when I romp with my pup.

I also need to be able to either clip the bag to a belt/waist band and use it with a strap (for when I'm wearing a coat or can't clip it on). But I don't want to mess with a waist strap if I don't need it (hence the clip option). A little side pocket for a clicker and a couple of waste bags would be cool, but a small, discrete footprint is a much higher priority.

No one has seriously tried to deliver a quality product that I can wear around without feeling conspicuous and use easily.

Had to get that out of my system.

TOM BIHN Inc. has three dogs on staff, so this is a bag design that Tom is working on. Not sure when it'll be available, though.

Too big. I use a very old clicker/treat bag from Doggonegood.com, but it's Cordura and still hard to clean. I'[d love a Dyneema one with a snap on the front for a clicker ring, or a sleeve for the clicker instead (more and more companies are making clickers, the snap hook would probably be better, since they aren't all rectangular now, and most come with rings on or holes for rings to be added).

My old bag is about 4 1/2" long, maybe 6 1/2" around, with a drawstring top and a belt clip on the back. My ideal bait bag would be Dyneema with an inch more length and width, and a stiffening collar 3 or 4 inches down from the drawstring (this could be an inch wide strip of ballistic sewn on for looks and utility. The ballistic would keep the bag sprung open yet not be stiff like plastic boning or a metal ring - great for packing your dog bags for shows).

Wish I had one right now - packing for my home-town 3-day AKC cluster as I type. Off to the fairgrounds tomorrow... Away! Bar! Finish! Good dog...

Until Tom comes up with a knock out design specific treat bag, I think the Small Stuff Sack is the ideal size.

I only see them on the Small Swift page and I don't know if they can be offered by themselves as they are not pictured that way on the Accessory link.

Even better would be something that I've seen referred to as a "french hinge." It would snap open and closed, just be inserting your hand into the bag.

There is a much larger bait bag that uses this method, but I was hoping that something smaller (like the drawstring bags) could be made with the french hinge approach.

The stuff sack wouldn't have any way to fit on your belt, and even the small one is way too big.
