    iPhone/iPod-Touch Neck Strapped Pouch

    Hi all,

I am a recent purchaser of my first Apple product, an iPod Touch. I am very happy with it. This is an MP3 player I will use and not allow to quickly become a dust magnet because the user interface is so inadequate. I have had excellent experience with this device and I can stream radio over it. Outstanding!

Now this lead me to a predicament: my shirt pocket is getting too stuffed and heavy. While the Touch is nicely thin, it has a solid feel and weight. Adding it to the already crowded pocket that contains my reading glasses, shirt pocket briefcase, Retro51 Tornado pen, and Moleskine Cahiers, has my pocket shifting the lay of my shirt and bulging just enough that I want to add an acceptable solution. Now I could of course move all these items to my Cafe bag but some things I like to have upon my person.

I considered a Side Effect as a solution, but what I want is something that is essentially a portable shirt pocket on steroids. One that hangs from a neck strap. This will allow me to have all these items at the ready, but also allow me to transfer them about with ease. The best fit for my need I think is the passport pouch. But, ultimately what I want is something without a zipper, some padding for the iPod Touch, a small dedicated pocket to hold ear buds, and a slot for my pocket briefcase/cahiers/pen combo. The glasses can stay in the shirt pocket. This pouch would also be helpful for wearing shirts that don't have a pocket. Why shirts are even made without a pocket is another matter altogether. I plan on ordering the passport pouch in Steel when it is available in March. I'd still like a more dedicated/specific pouch as my portable shirt pocket on steroids.

Input, ideas? Does anyone else have a similar need? Tnx all. :)

I use a cork pouch for my cell phone, I have had the pouch since 06 and it has held many different cell phones.

When cell phones were simpler and lighter I used to carry the phone inside the pouch around my neck I use a wide
lanyard I got at a National park but...

Right now, I think coupling a Mini Cork or Padded Pouch for your Ipod touch with a 3D Clear Organizer Cube fitted with its thin Shoulder Strap would be the ideal accessory you are looking for.

You might be able to clip the Ipod Pouch in the outside O rings used to hold the Strap.

Thanks for the input. I will likely go with the passport pouch as an immediate solution and I may use a cork pouch or padded pouch in it. The neck safes are just not rigid enough at the drug store, nor are they anywhere near as nice as Tom's passport pouch. I still hope interest drums up in this enough to make it worth Tom's time to take a look at the idea. I think this is one of those ahead of the curve moments. People don't realize they have this need. I think once people try it, the convenience will make it a regular item for them. I'll post my experience with using the Passport Pouch for this app after I have given it a shakedown doing such.

I guess it's safe to say then you've never attended Macworld.

There are more cases, carriers, holsters, and the like than you could imagine. Trust me... it's probably out there. You just have to find it.

Very safe to say, KarlJ. This is my first Apple product. Can you suggest any websites in your experience that you found useful and truthful in your experience with Apple products? My focus is accessories and apps for an Apple iPod Touch. I posted a request to members in the Not About Bags section to give me suggestions. :)

As a long time lurker (and proud owner of a Super Ego) would like to throw in my two cents, how about developing a clear plastic sleeve on the front of the TB Passport holder to slide an ID card in, this would be great for those of us required to wear picture ID in the workspace (think of the number of govt personnel alone that could use this product).

An update on my adventures in iPod touch carry.

Thank you all again for your helpful input. I have an ID holder I found, if memory serves, on the floor of the Javitts center during a Comicon. Its a chintzy thing but good enough to test the concept of wearing the iPod as a neck hang. It didn't pass muster. I discovered that it was just annoying for me and would enure toward neck trouble. Then, I started carrying the iPod in my shirt breast pocket. The trouble there was it would make the pocket sag, and my clothes hung funny. I don't like that either. Part of the trouble is I already carry stuff regularly in that pocket, so it tipped the scale so to speak.

At present, I keep the iPod nearby in a small cork pouch, with the earbuds inside. I also ordered a belt pouch from countycomm.com. They have a terribly laid out website but I have ordered from them in the past and they deliver. Good products, quick shipping, poor website layout. It's the item they call the PCC pouch or some such, the large version. I am hoping this works out and I can wear it conveniently on my belt. Now I just have to see if I can get a better handle on the ear speakers wire being all over the place. I'll post updates as the adventure continues. ;)
