Jump pack for Monolith / Brain Cell

Hey Darcy, the forums are looking good!

I love my wasabi Monolith dearly, and I do think it is definitely the best sleeve solution for the Powerbook 17. (I would defintely have bought one if I hadn't won mine!)

Now, I probably will never need a full sized bag for day to day use (even a small backpack would be more bulky than it would be worth), but I would love to have something to hold maybe the power adapter, a few CDs, and miscelany. What I would love is a sleeve almost identical in construction (but with less padding and more interior space) that could strap onto (and be carried in tandem with) the Monolith or Brain Cell. That way, the bulk of the total package would only be increased in one dimension! Ideally, the sleeve would have a plastic insert that would act like a drawer, maybe with repositionable dividers. That way, people could customize the insert to fit the stuff they have without it sliding around too much.

Am I making sense? I can never tell. ;)

This was an old idea of mine from when we first made the "Lap Dog" (which has since become the Brain Cell). It was going to be called "Dog's Best Friend", but early prototypes just never looked quite right. Mostly it always looked and felt like two separate bags, and if we added, say, a zipper to zip the two units together, it all became too bulky.
On the Brain Cell (nee Lap Dog), we added a stretch pocket to add a little of this funtionality w/o adding a lot of bulk or cost, and also developed the Eclipse for even more pockets.
In terms of the Monolith, I've always guessed that most folks do not carry this on it's own, as it seems so oddly long and thin.
Ought I to reconsider? We could add shoulder strap attachments and a stretch pocket if folks were interested - probably add $5 on to the price.

I can't speak for everyone, but I've always gone with a sleeve-only configuration for everyday carrying, and the Monolith is the best of the bunch so far! It fits perfectly under the seat of my car for (mostly) concealed storage and the handle makes it very easy to grab and pull out. Although I personally wouldn't use the shoulder straps, I know that it has been wished for on the Macnn boards a few times.

Hi Barry,

The case we have that would fit your laptop is the Size 2 Monolith - and that would be a tight fit. However, you can adjust the suspension in the bottom of the bag so that your laptop can sit lower, providing a bit more room.

The Size 2 Monolith will fit inside both the Smart Alec and the Brain Bag
