Wow, Darcy, that's very sad to hear, and such at turnaround from March.
Very disappointed.

Wow, Darcy, that's very sad to hear, and such at turnaround from March.
Very disappointed.
Everyone's heard mine often enough before:
Smaller Aeronaut, 40-41" dimensions, no longer than 19", probably with one end pocket and main section.
Your bags are beautiful. I hope I get to...
My ideal is aeronaut organisation (flexibility) in a 40-41" bag, since as someone else mentioned there is quite a bit of space left over if you pack efficiently in the larger bag - hence a real need...
Anything over about five days is all the same. And dealing with different climates is done by keeping two things in mind:
1. layer, layer, layer
2. wear biggest, bulkiest, heaviest clothes on...
Wow, August 2008 discussion all over again :-) (search for "Aeronette" if you want to see!)
Definitely. Australian carry-on dimensions are typically 19x14x9 max, but a bag 19x13x8 would work...
Another vote here for lush solid shampoo/conditioner. And one is enough for several months.
The little tins are useful but unless the bar is completely dry before you put them back in, it'll stick...
That is a large assumption. I use a combination of packing cubes and folded/rolled items, depending on what I'm carrying and what needs to be cushioned.
You misunderstand me. With a filing-cabinet...
I'm... very sad. Terribly disappointed, in fact. I'm definitely a duffel packer. I pack in 3 dimensions, not 2; stacks and blocks of things rather than like everything in a filing cabinet. The...
Steel/Solar, because steel is such a groovy colour, and solar so I can see things in the bottom of the bag when the light isn't good :)
Pre-order-me-up!
Thanks for the pics, autumnmist, very helpful. Or not - now I think I'm lusting after the Brain Bag too!
You're welcome.
That may be a factor, yes. But if it gets too wide they slip off your shoulders, or pull too close to the joint (something I'm particularly sensitive to, due to shoulder...
p.s. I'm 5' tall but, as you can see, am solid. I think the 22" bag is actually ideal for me, size-wise, but it does end up too heavy for cabin baggage if packed fully. Bring on the Tristar!
I really do mean 22" - that's aeronaut size, although I'm not fortunate enough to own one (yet). I have a 24-25" bag as well that I'm completely comfortable with. By comfortable I mean "able to carry...
Good luck. I'm shorter than you are, so I understand the difficulty! but I've managed to make a 22" long bag comfortable, it just needs a lot of fiddling. And the more weight on your hips the better.
For me, it's all about weight and Australian domestic limitations - see the extensive discussions on these fora and the 1bag1world blog&forum. The limit for us domestically is more usually expressed...
Is it better if you do up the straps more? It seems to be sitting very low.
I was around in that other thread (http://www.tombihn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1223) earlier; I got the impression that the "smaller aeronaut" discussion helped kick off (or move along) the...
Scotlib: From my perspective, a major impetus for wishing for a new bag is so that it fits in with common small cabin baggage rules. This is usually 19x13x9. 20" is a touch long (and yes, that 1" can...
Yes, 20cm is close enough to 8".
scotlib said "I wonder if 19x13x7 would be enough"; my answer would be a solid "no". 4 litres is a significant increase in capacity (going from 7" to 8") and for...
While we're talking colours, I actually think there is a lot to be said for a light coloured inside of a bag. Not white, obviously, but something much more towards the light end of town, so that it...
That is excellent news; if it fits in the 40-41", 19x13x8-9 limit, and not bigger, I will fall at your feet and buy one in a heartbeat, even with the absolutely horrendous cost of international...
I too want a 19x13x8" bag.
Apologies for bringing up this old-ish thread, but this is quite a serious issue now, with airlines tightening their baggage limits, not just for checked luggage but...
Thanks for all the great replies. Your stories of long-term experience with Tom's bags really helps. Thankyou also for your (long!) reply, Tom. It's never been stored in a damp place - always a...
Just to be clear: the problem bags are not Tom's. I have confidence that he uses the best materials he can find. Perhaps I am unlucky with a dodgy batch of material, and things have advanced over...
I've had a lot of trouble with urethane inner coating/lining flaking off when bags get old (as in 7-10+ years). I have a LowePro camerabag, a Tatonka daypack and a large travelpack all with the same...
