I've never had a problem taking a Brain Bag (which from the description is bigger than the WF) as my personal item (on domestic flights) with an Aeronaut as a carryon.

The 15" folder definitely fits. Any larger ones do not.

A magnet shouldn't be a problem. I have put my wallet (with credit cards) and my video iPod in ScotteVest pants and jacket pockets with magnets, and have never had a single problem.
