Question Two questions about the Western Flyer

    1. Will the Western Flyer fit under the seat on a plane?

    2. Is it on its way out? It's only got two colors listed and the version without backpack straps is gone as well.

    Hi Brandon!

    1. It depends on the plane. I believe it will fit under the seats on larger planes (I recall people saying that even an Aeronaut will fit), but possibly not on small ones.

    2. I don't think so - TB are cutting back a bit on current models whilst they make a batch of new designs that are debuting later this month, so only the really really popular bags like the multi-award-winning Synapse 25 are available in lots of colours. I'm hoping they ramp up production of other designs once the launch is over, but it may depend on how many new staff they can recruit.

ETA: there's a full list of what's going into production hiatus here: http://www.tombihn.com/forums/tom-bi...ackorders.html

    Collections:
    Work EDC: SE + S19 + DLBC
Leisure: SCBs, MCBs, FJN, Swift, lots of YSSs
Travel: WF + Pilot or SA, both with SE/SCB
General organisation: More pouches, stuff sacks and cubes than you can shake a keystrap at!
Favourite TB colours: aubergine, forest (sniff!), linen, wasabi, UV
Hoping for: A new dyneema colour for YSSs; a Linen Side Effect; the return of Portable Culture!

My Aeronaut fits under the seat of a CRJ, I would imagine the WF should fit under most seats. The tricky ones are the seats with the video equipment that cut out some of your storage space.

Thanks guys! I was thinking about whether a Western Flyer could be my personal item instead of the Cadet that I'm currently using.

    Hi Brandon,

While the Western Flyer is technically larger than at least United's personal item sizer, my Western Flyer fit the sizer on a trip I took this past Saturday. See:

@maverick do you think a Balistic Western Flyer would fit too?

I ended up packing in the Brain Bag today - I had a little more to carry. Perhaps the Western Flyer next time...

I have a ballistic WF. A few weeks ago I flew on an ERJ-145, seat 4A. I easily fit the WF flat under the seat and had space remaining between the underside of the seat and WF. With coaxing I could put the WF under the seat in briefcase position with space beside it for something else.. ..maybe a modestly packed co-pilot or cafe bag.

With WF in flat position I could stretch out my left leg and get my foot w/size 8 Vans under the seat along the side of the plane. R foot had go elsewhere... on the bag or into the aisle or straight down. With feet unshod they fit perfectly between my WF and the underside of the seat allowing me to stretch my legs and get "comfortable."

On this trip my WF was quite full but not overstuffed. It filled the United Airlines personal bag sizer completely.
