I just picked up a Cache for Apple Wireless Keyboard, which is a great sleeve, except that I'm having one problem: after powering off the keyboard, sliding it into the Cache, and then sliding the cache into my Ristretto, the binding along the edge of the Cache protrudes enough to push the power button and turn the keyboard back on. *I am loading it as described on the site, and I don't know what I can do to mitigate this problem. Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
I haven't had an issue that I've noticed, but I use the keyboard only for my iPhone, and turn the Bluetooth on the phone off before putting the keyboard away. That means I wouldn't necessarily notice if it came back on ... I did look when I put it away and didn't think the binding would push the power button, but I can't say for sure whether it does or not. I think it's more likely (when I've forgotten to turn off the Bluetooth) the other things in my bag are pressing the keys and triggering the connection. (For reference, I stow the cache vertically in my Synapse.)
Leave bluetooth on, power off the keyboard, and hit the keys - my experience has been that this doesn't turn the keyboard back on. I only notice it when i stow the cache in the ristretto vertically.
Okay. I rarely power the keyboard off, either. I was hoping someone else would chime in since I had a feeling I didn't use the Bluetooth/power the way you did. Leaving the power and Bluetooth on and pressing the keys wakes up the connection. One time I started playing music on my phone and couldn't figure out how!
Anyone else have experience with the Cache binding and this keyboard?
I do not have the cache for the wireless keyboard - I use a couple of different cases on occasion. One thing I have noticed is that the keyboard is pretty sturdy and does not really need a case. If you use the cache and cannot somehow flatten or trim the binding (if that is even possible) to avoid pressing the power button, it may be best to remove the batteries when using the cache and reinsert them when you use the keyboard - by no means ideal but it'll save your batteries.
I turn off bluetooth in the iPad to keep this kind of thing from happening. It ran the battery down way too many times. (If I'm traveling, I do take out the batteries.)
YES! I have the same exact problem when I put my Apple Wireless Keyboard into the Keyboard Cache, it turns itself on every single time. I have since stopped using the Cache and use a different sleeve my mother sewed for me. Just in case, I am an experienced iPad and keyboard user/traveler, so it has absolutely nothing to do with any bluetooth/power configuration. The seams of the Cache DO turn on the keyboard, rendering it almost useless. Dissapointing, as the Cache would probably be the absolute best protection for the keyboard.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced the Cache stretching a bit with time so that this problem does not occur?
I got my keyboard cache yesterday and it does this too. Doesn't matter whether the flap is tucked in or not .. the case is just tight enough to trigger the power switch.

That is really too bad, as the protection the Keyboard Cache provides is second to none. My recommendation would be to make it side entry...like the one my mother made me (picture included.) The other thought I've had is to stitch some sort of hard plastic into the side that has the power button, keeping it from pushing into the power switch. For now I just keep bluetooth off on my ipad and keep a spare set of batteries in my cables pouch. It's so well made, I haven't been able to find anything that I think is protecting the keyboard as well. Sigh.

We've been thinking along similar lines - the trick will be to find something thin enough to fit yet rigid enough to prevent the switch depressing.Quote:

Actually I blame apple - the switch is sexy design at the cost of utility IMO.
Where would you have Apple put the switch?
The keyboard was designed to be part of the apple desktop line of computers - not to accompany the ipad on its journeys. An apple wireless keyboard pre-dates the ipad by several years. That the keyboard works with the ipad is great and highly useful. There are solutions available for taking the wireless keyboard along for the ride when you travel, and there are other keyboards and cases designed specifically for traveling with the ipad.
