12 Days in South Korea (Western Flyer + day bag)
I recently started a travel blog to document my meanderings and equipment testing overseas. I'm a little obsessed with the never ending journey to compile the perfect kit, and I haven't shared anything I've written until now....so let me know what you think!
Allow me to nerd out really hard on gear here for a second. I like to pack light and generally opt for 2 bag travel (both carryons), but I’ve found that bringing 2 equal sized bags is cumbersome when constantly on the move. I've recently converted to carrying an Aeronaut 30 + Patagonia Atom sling and will be testing that setup on an upcoming trip around Asia. Bringing a second small pack allows for a couple advantages:
1) Robust EDC for around town (most foldable travel bags are not that great).
2) If you want to travel to another location away from your home base for a few days, you can pack bag #2 with some cloths and leave the bulk of your stuff safely tied to a rock and sunk to the bottom of a nearby river for retrieval later.
3) Easy access to stuff on the plane while maintaining leg room.
12 days…two bags…no problem. Here’s the shake down:
Bag #1 – Tom Bihn Western Flyer: 26 liters of storage space.
Bag #2 – GoRuck Echo: 16 liters of storage space (found this was a little bigger then I would have liked).
42 liters of carrying capacity left plenty of room for everything I needed, plus lots of extra space if I wanted to bring anything back with me. Behold the packing list:
Cotton shirts x6
Ibex Shak Lite full zip
Ibex Long Sleeve
Ibex Hooded Indie
Underwear Cotton x2
Ibex Underwear x2
Sox Cotton x3
Ibex sox x2
Electric shaver (and charger)
Canon 60D (w/ charger)
Macbook Air 13 inch (w/charger)
Micron pens x2
Webbing straps (attach bags together) x2
Black Diamond carabiners (attach bags together) x2
Melatonin pills for Carlos (120 pills) x2
Allergy pills for Carlos (30 pills)
The GoRuck is full, but the Western Flyer only has 1 compartment filled leaving about 13 liters of sweet unused souvenir space (used for Kakoa Talk merchandise and K-POP sox of course).
Let’s do this.
I don't see the camera in the pic. How did you end up packing it?
I actually used the camera to take the photo ^_^
I packed the camera in the day bag in a Tom Bihn Travel Tray
