MacBook Air in the Western Flyer

This may not be a sanctioned use, but I've found that the backpack strap pocket on the Western Flyer is actually a great place to put a 13" MacBook Air inside a Vertical Cache. When you go through security, you just unzip the pocket, lift out the top flap of the Cache, and pull out the MB Air. Works well for me, and the extra padding on the back of the WF, combined with the Cache's padding, keeps the Air protected.

Of course, I know I could just get a horizontal Cache and put it in one of the WF's other compartments, but I use the Cache/MBA mostly with the Synapse, so the vertical orientation makes sense.

    Very interesting technique.

Is this one of the newest-generation Airs?

When you use the Western Flyer in this way, is it possible to still use backpack straps? (On WFs that are so-equipped?)

Yeah, it's the 2010 version of the Air. You could still use the backpack straps with the Air in that pocket, but then you wouldn't be able to pull the laptop out quickly or easily, which would defeat the purpose of why I'm doing it. But once you're through security, you could definitely pull out the backpack straps and carry the WF that way.

If you get a chance, could you post a brief YouTube video to demo your technique? That would be great to see!

    Thanks,
