The Birth of Our Modern Obsession with Maps @ Brain Pickings

One of the biggest differences between Scotland and Spain is that here, in Scotland, we have Ordinance Survey maps of every road, house, hill, pond, coast, farm, factory, path, track and trail in the whole country, and all maps can use this as an incredibly accurate starting point, whereas in Spain there's no such thing. So every cartographer has to start from scratch. As a result, no two maps are the same, and I can't even get a decent, reliable road atlas!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful link Darcy!
The map topic is fascinating and so is the whole Brain Pickings website. :)
