We are all so shocked and saddened. Tom wanted me to share this:
Very sad news today about Steve Jobs. The creativity, clarity and foresight he brought to Apple remain an inspiration to many of us, most certainly the many millions who use Apple products, but also those, who like me, were inspired by the human touch he gave both Apple technology and Apple business. Thank you, Steve, for the countless ways you enriched our lives. We will miss you. - Tom

Sad news. Between Apple and Pixar no one outside of my family has had more of an effect on my daily life.

I was actually on my way to the Apple Store when I heard the news. This is what I found when I got there. Photo obviously taken on my iPhone :(. The blacked out windows are for a remodel, but it was quite fitting for the day. The flowers and candles were a wonderful tribute.
Steve died too soon; I am deeply saddened, and my heart goes out to his wife and children especially. As Tom said, Steve's creativity enriched our lives in many ways, but I find myself thinking beyond all the Apple products in my home to Steve's view on life—that inspired and challenged me as well.
still in state of shock. it's strange how someone you never knew personally touched your life in such a way that you can't help but miss him and grieve.
i hope that his family and everyone whose lives he touched find peace in this difficult time.
at such moments, we cannot help but be reminded that our time here is short, and that we should use it to focus on what is really important.
I am saddened by his death. I pray for his family, to give them strength during these hard days. The products that he helped to design have impacted me on a daily basis. The way he changed the digital landscape--it has completely changed how people consume digital media--music, television shows, movies. He helped to push us into a fully digital age.
During the iPhone 4S announcement, I thought Tim Cook seemed slightly subdued. It makes sense now--I cannot think of how difficult it must have been to give a 90 something minute announcement while knowing in the back of your head that a your mentor and friend was on his deathbed.
I agree with all of the above. Like Maverick says, the key in this is using the melancholy it brings to cause some introspection. What would you do differently if you could see the date of your mortality, what is really important in your life?
