Irish Setter Lad BOO Available For Adoption
This is our latest foster boy BOO.
We are fostering him for Save Our Setters. BOO was born on Halloween in 2003, and he has had quite an interesting life since then.
His first family ran into serious financial troubles when he was about 3, and were reduced to feeding him a diet of canned soup - not very good for a big lad like BOO. So they took him to a swap meet and got $25 for him.
His next family was surprised when he got excited when playing with their small children and knocked one of the little darlings over. So they put him on a chain behind the barn. While shackled behind the barn, he contracted heartworm. His rocket scientist family decided to give him a livestock dewormer - great for hookworms in cows, but deadly poison for a dog; and no help in treating the heartworm. Since he was in pain and wouldn't quit barking, they decided that their only recourse was to shoot him!
Fortunately, a decent woman in the area heard about this, and she took BOO off their hands. Then three days later, she fell and broke her leg. This left her unable to care for BOO, so she wisely surrendered him to Save Our Setters.
Now he is doing great in foster care with us. His heartworms (and a nasty yeast infection in both of his ears) have been successfully treated. He gets neutered on Friday the 13th, and then he will be ready for adoption.
BOO is a wonderfully intelligent gentle giant (he will weigh about 80 lbs. when we have him back up to a healthy weight). He is a joyously happy dog and is very eager to please. He is totally housebroken and crate trained. He has mastered COME and SIT, and is working on DOWN and STAY.
BOO does show some aggression to strange dogs, so he might do best as an only dog in a family. He is available for adoption from Save Our Setters at this link.
If you have the space in your heart for this wonderful boy, please consider applying to be his forever family. And even if he isn't exactly the right dog for you, consider one of the many other wonderful dogs at Save Our Setters.
BOO's vet bills are now over the $1,000 mark, so please consider sponsoring him here, if you can see your way to making a tax deductible donation.
Thanks to Darcy & the good folks at Tom Bihn for allowing me to post BOO's story here. And if you have any questions, please feel free to Private Message me on the forum.
Thanks for reading all of this.
