Oh they are both great bags and I would be happy to have either in my collection. :)
Bag Lady, are you a Norland Nanny? Rumors have it on the Net that Mary Poppins might have been. Chimchimcheroo! ;)
Original designs. Made in the U.S.A.

ex machina: Heehe, I was hypothesizing that if one was a nanny, she (or he) might need/want to pull such things out of said bag... No, I am not a nanny, Norland or otherwise, although love the spiffy hat, very Poppinseque.
Looking at the pictures made me wonder what sort of regulation bag a Norland Nanny carries? I bet it's a huge (and heavy) black leather doctor-like satchel filled with diapers, burp cloths, bottles and lovies which they carry around to strengthen their arm muscles to prepare the NITs (Nannies-In-Training) for carrying 25 lb. toddlers.
In a way, although it limits options, I wish my job as a FT SAHM mom with a PT job in office came with a regulation bag that was already tested for the job and proved effective! Then I wouldn't have to haunt the TB site for hours on end mulling over the oh-so-many cool options!
If I had to choose a TB bag for a Norland Nanny, it would be the Imago in Black Ballistic (multiple pockets-ballistic is easy to keep clean-black would look sharp against the camel hair coat), or the LCB in Cocoa to match their hats.
And lastly, hope the poor things don't have to wear heels!

More on the Imago...
I have been reading all the back and forth about Mary Poppins and carpet bags..and wondering why no one is talking about Phileas Fogg and Around the World...hehehehe.
yes: the outside pockets of the Imago will take an Iphone without a case; but since few use it without a case, I wanted to point that out.
Ex Machina: your thoughts about the FS are quite fascinating...! I think TB should be able to figure something simple and elegant...sometime.
And given that I am litt professor, most amused by your grecian deux ex machina...:) that is just great...I think you should write a piece on how the ancient greeks are still amongst us!
Methinks that this forum --unlike many others--is truly not about luggage or TB!
s
For me, having a case for the iPhone
1. Costs money that I could spend elsewhere
2. Detracts from the style of the iPhone
3. Makes a small thing (good!) bigger (bad!)
4. Is unnecessary, because I've dropped my iPhone on the ground a number of times and it still works and looks fine.
YMMV
(I'd rather spend the money on TB pouches, that could house the iPhone if necessary ;) )
(What was the original topic again? hehe)
I realize it's a biased opinion, but I think Bihn bag owners are very well-read, well-educated and more funner (sic) than most!

I would love to see a Phileas Fogg in Ultrasuede, the ultimate gentleman adventure traveling bag, sort of Indiana Jones but sophisticated.
One should not forget the Passepartout accessory in Ultrasuede as well.
Something that looks good and fit everywhere boardroom to beach to bedroom or from plane to bicycle to train.
I let Tom surprise us with a way out design, in the meantime, maybe forum members can share ideas about a traveling Ultrasuede, ultra practical item.
I would be very happy to purchase a Dyneema bag, lined in Ultrasuede, with Poron handles. I would like the bag to have piping to set the shape, but to be foldable and insertable into a medium sized Cordura or better still, Dyneema pouch.
Can Paisley be done in Dyneema? That would make for a good carpet bag effect.![]()

ex, isn't most of the point of Ultrasuede its luxurious feel? How can you stroke it if it's on the inside?
Bihn bags are a dangerous addiction, and I am being happily led to the Dark Side by this forum... Dun-dun-dun, dun-DE-dun, dun-DE-dun, Dun-dun-dun, dun-DE-dun, dun-DE-dun (with my apologies to John Williams.)
Hoping to pull my husband in with a Steel/Solar Aeronaut and accompanying packing cubes for Christmas.

Such a straight line, but I shall restrain my ribald impulse. :P
I am suggesting that for the carpet bag, and its attendant versatility and uses one would best be served by Dyneema. Of course, like the Synapse, it can be offered in a variety of colors and materials, including in that array, Dyneema. As to the Ultrasuede lining, it is smashing on the side pockets of my Imago, and I would be happy to have a bag lined in it. (Why is his hand always in his bag? What is with that glassy smirk on him anyway? Do you think he has a gun? No. He just has Ultrasuede in there, lucky guy. ) I think the durability of Dyneema on the outside and the luxury (and noteworthy durability) of Ultrasuede on the inside would be a combo that creates an ultimate carpet bag. My operating definition of carpet bag for these purposes being a large voluminous bag made of durable materials that can take a beating yet keeps its contents safe an' cozy. Perhaps the addition of a Poron layer twixt the Dyneema and Ultrasuede giving the bag a superior version of the extra cushioning that a carpet bag has by nature.
Dyneema is a remarkable material. I think if it had existed when carpet bags were developed, we would be talking about Dyneema Bags, and some originals would still be in use today! Slash resistant, wear resistant, waterproof, ultra-light, it's like elves make it! Hmm, maybe Dyneema is the Mithril of Middle Earth...![]()
