“It’s taking too long for my boys to use ‘the force’ to pick up their minifigures so we’re cleaning them up my way ”
CARNIVAL 9: Are you still using your Tom Bihn bag? Could you update us on your current bag situation?
Michael Lopp: I use my Tom Bihn Smart Alec backpack every single day. It’s my go-to bag for both daily use as well as when I’m traveling. It’s sturdy, it has tons of space when I need it, and it keeps my hands free when I’m wrangling whatever random thing as I travel from here to there. I keep checking out new bags, but I haven’t left my Smart Alec.
“Our first trip will be a boring two days in Columbus for work, followed by a mini break in NYC next month for a weekend. That’ll be a piece of cake.
I’m reallllly looking forward to trying to use her (apparently my luggage has a gender) for next year’s vacation to Paris (with a stop in London, of course). Can’t wait to see how much I can cram into this bag.”
“I did the method where you fold one shoulder over the other, turning the jacket inside out, and leaving the sleeves to hang naturally inside (don’t stuff one into the other). Then either fold it in half or in thirds. I didn’t put it in plastic, as the instructions I read said the plastic would make it move around, which is what causes the wrinkles. You’re supposed to have it packed fairly snug against other items, and the “inside out” part of the jacket serves as the barrier that I believe most people are looking for with the plastic covers. The jacket didn’t even need to hang in the steamy bathroom before wearing. You can find a video of this method on YouTube. Worked like a charm!”
“6 weekend getaways in 6 months, I have finally got it down!
I rarely brag about anything, but I am pretty awesome when it comes to packing. It was especially easy when we were traveling for an entire year living out of a carry-on size backpack. But when it came to the weekend trip, for some reason, packing was so much harder. At least for one year, I never had to worry about what I’m wearing because I would cycle the same four t-shirts over and over. With a weekend, it’s like you need an outfit for every day. An outfit for the day and one for night. It’s embarrassing to be caught wearing something the same shirt twice in a weekend, right?”
