Rainy Day Magazine First Look: The Ego Messenger Bag

I had to travel to NYC this past weekend. For a two day trip I definitely had more gear than clothes. The Ego and the Aeronaunt were perfect for the job. We’ll have a FirstUse write-up later on this month. We think most will be surprised at the amount of gear one can managed to pack in the Ego :-) ” – Wan Chi Lau

TOM BIHN LUX Tote / Shoulder Bag

Forum Review of the LUX Tote/Shoulder Bag

A review of the LUX tote/shoulder bag from the TOM BIHN forums:

“Bought my ultra-stylish tote-bag-loving niece an all-black LUX for her birthday. She adores it. Sophisticated enough to carry to a job interview (which she did just today). Stunningly roomy for such a sleek bag. She’s quite petite (just 5’2″) and even well-filled the LUX does not overwhelm her. She’s hooked (Oooooh noooo. The pun. I’m so ashamed.) on the convenience of the key strap. Delighted with the full-across pocket. Thinks it’s so cool that the bag stands up on it’s own. The LUX has definitely climbed in our personal Birthday Gift Hall of Fame.”

MacCompanion Reviews the ID Messenger Bag

Excerpt:

“It finally struck me that Tom Bihn and Apple, Inc. are definitely on the same wavelength, and have a lot of the same ideals. Tom’s bags are meticulously hand crafted, with design and functionality seamlessly blending into one. The workers on the floor obviously take pride in recreating the art pieces that Tom has designed. I emphasize again something that I pointed out last time with the Smart Alec review, the craftsman on the floor aren’t in another part of the world, where workmanship can be questionable and no oversight committees are needed to make sure things are done correctly. These people work alongside the actual designer in Seattle, Washington. That not only keeps quality high with fewer QC issues, but perhaps even inventiveness and innovation can spring from such a relationship, furthering these exceptional bags.”

Repost: How to Care for Your TOM BIHN Bag

Care instructions have been added to our F.A.Q. Thanks, Lisa, for your suggestion!

You love your TOM BIHN bag. You take it everywhere with you, and soon it begins to show a little dirt, or at least you figure it must be getting dirty. So how do you clean it?

We recommend hand-washing your TOM BIHN bag with a mild soap — environmentally-friendly dish soaps work well, but as always, with any soap, test it on a small, inconspicuous area of the bag before you use it on the entire bag. Fill your sink or bath tub with warm water, add a little soap (a little goes a long way!), and let the bag soak for a half hour. If there are visible spots of dirt, gently rub the area with a wash cloth, or you can apply a little soap directly to that spot and let it soak. Rinse your bag thoroughly (this is a lot easier if you’ve only used a little bit of soap!) and lay your bag flat to dry on top of a bath towel.

Methods we DON’T recommend:

Having your bag dry-cleaned or putting your bag in a washing machine or dryer will void the guarantee, and make your bag look funny. We don’t want either of those things to happen.

Your TOM BIHN bag will last for years. The fabrics we use to make our bags are treated with a water-resistant coating, but over time, that coating will start to dissipate. If you live in a rainy climate like we do, we’d recommend treating your bag with Nikwax after one year of use.

Review from the TOM BIHN Forums: Medium Cafe Bag & Brain Cell

“This summer, I am commuting from uptown Manhattan to SoHo for a part time job. I am also going to school part time as well. On the four days I am working, the Cafe Bag carries everything I need to stay occupied during the long commute while keeping things out of my pockets (I’m not a big fan of having stuff in my pockets). I have taken it with me on several trips back to California and it has become my default daily bag. Where I used to shuffle things from one bag to another, I no longer need to do that with my Medium Cafe Bag, and I’ve in fact given away some of the bags that my Tom Bihn products are slowing replacing! With my cafe bag, I know that when I am carrying it, everything I need is within arm’s reach.”
