“I used the bag throughout the night and was completely sold on it by the end. It was easy to get into the front side pouches when needed and took up far less bulk than my coat (can it please be spring?). I removed the waist straps for now, but will use them during airport hikes.”

Practical Hacks review of the Synapse backpack

Excerpt:
“How does a bag manufacturer stand out in a field that’s cluttered with players and wannabe players?

With Tom Bihn, the recipe is simple: load your products with thoughtful features grounded in real-world experience; hand sew them in the U.S., using tough, high quality materials that reek of quality; and in a nod to (home) Seattle’s weather, equip them with YKK splashproof zippers so everything stays dry.”

TOM BIHN Synapse Review by Practical Hacks

“Your bag is the “Toughskins” of messenger bags.”

Recent customer feedback:

“I just wanted to thank Tom Bihn for an excellent bag and excellent service. I saw the Synapse in a magazine and checked out your website – your bags are rather expensive but I figured I’d give one a try (Synapse). It arrived ahead of time (the grey was backordered but came much more quickly than anticipated) and is very high-quality in both materials and craftsmanship. Thank you for creating such an excellent, well-designed product, and for the great service. Looking forward to years of use!”

“I got one of your messenger bags a couple years ago, to carry my Mac back and forth to work. Since then, I was issued a PC laptop at work, and I use the bag they gave me. It’s coming apart. My wife says that I’m tough on things, and it’s true. I think that there needs to be a hardened line of products like “Toughskins”, or “Fisher-Price”, or “Tonka” for adults like me. Your bag is the “Toughskins” of messenger bags, because I’ve only broken it in, not broken it.
Thanks for the quality product!”

New Seattle Store Update

Since our move to a new, larger Seattle factory space in late January, we’ve been working on ramping up production to meet the demand for our bags. That means hiring new sewers, figuring out which new sewing machines we need, and planning how to optimize our production schedule.

We’ve also been thinking of our Seattle retail store/factory showroom (the only place to buy a TOM BIHN bag besides through our website) and working to make real that vision of a larger showroom with enough wall space to showcase all of our designs while giving you enough table space to try them out. It’s a work in progress, and while we don’t yet have a Grand Opening date, we will open on Saturday, April 16th from 11:00am – 4:00pm for those of you who have been patiently waiting for our store to open. The new address is: 4750A Ohio Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134. We’ll post directions and more information as April 16th approaches. Excuse our dust, and trust that, once the store and factory are finished, we will extend an invitation to you (and everyone else) to join us for a Grand Opening party. If you will be in Seattle from out of town between now and April 16th, or you really need to visit the store, email Katy and we’ll see what we can do. Thanks for your continued patience!

Flinx: SuperEgo, woo!

Flinx posted:

“I’ve had this bag [Super Ego] for awhile, but have only just recently been able to use it for it’s intended purpose – my employer finally got me a laptop!

An HP Elitebook 8740w now graces my desktop, as a replacement for a CAD workstation, which means this sucker is big, and HEAVY (almost 12 pounds! ). I was eager to put the Absolute Shoulder Strap to the test with this monster, which I did for the first time on Monday… And it performed beautifully!
No pinching, no pulling, no “rope burn” at the side of my neck; I was very impressed at how well the wide and long neoprene part of the strap acted as a cushion and shock absorber at the same time, making my daily stroll to and from the bus stops a breeze. I’m curious how it will feel this summer as I go jacket-less, ie. less padding between me and the strap.”
