“I traveled with my new Tom Bihn Tri-Star and my (few years old) Tom Bihn medium cafe bag. This was my first trip with the Tri-Star and it took me a little bit of fiddling to learn to pack efficiently (since I am used to a less structured duffel bag) but worked out FANTASTIC. The cafe bag is my normal everyday bag — it fits my SLR and my usual other stuff (wallet, cell phone, cardigan for layering, etc).
The Tri-Star with a week of clothes and other items (power adapter, chargers, Rick Steves books among other items) weighed about 18lb. I mostly wore it as a backpack or carried it by the handles (I never used the absolute shoulder strap though I had it with me). I put the backpack straps away before carrying it on the plane and it took up very little space in the overhead compartment. I like how it kept its shape for the most part. I did not use the center section for a laptop/netbook (my laptop is too big for the bag and I didn’t bring it) but I suspect I will after I get a new laptop.
Overall very happy with the bag and can’t wait to travel with it again!”
