“Raving Fan” customer service”

Customer Jim D. recently posted a rave about TOM BIHN customer service (we’re so flattered!) on his blog, Real Central VA:

Exceptional customer service

“What the Tom Bihn company did was provide “Raving Fan” customer service. This is one of my real estate goals – to provide service and value so exceptional, so out of the ordinary that people want to talk about it – tell their friends, write about it, and above all, as I will do with Tom Bihn – use my service again.”

First Impressions Upon Receiving a TOM BIHN Bag

Customer MarkA posted in our forums about his experience of receiving his Ego messenger bag:

“It was waiting for me when I got home yesterday!

First impression – wow! I now really ‘get’ what people were talking about when they say high quality. This bag looks like it could take some serious hammering and laugh it off!”

The ID Messenger Bag: A Customer Describes What It Can Hold

Customer D.P. sent us this review of our ID Messenger Bag:

“In case anyone else is wondering how much the new ID bag holds, I wanted to post my experiences. The short answer: it holds a lot.

I just bought my ID bag, along with the Brain Cell for my 13-inch MacBook, about a month ago. I needed a bag to travel with my MacBook, but with more flexible space arrangements than a briefcase. The ID met my needs perfectly. Here’s a description of what I had in the ID for my flight:

  • 13″ MacBook in Horizontal Brain Cell
  • Laptop power supply, cables, remote, small corded mouse
  • Contax G2 rangefinder camera, plus 3 lenses, digital spot meter, blower, misc accessories
  • Medium-sized paperback book
  • IPod Nano, headphones + earplugs
  • cell phone
  • Various cards, pens, keys, normal small travel stuff
  • Lunch
  • Snack food
  • Water bottle
  • A few papers like boarding pass, itinerary, notes, etc.
  • On the return trip, all of the above plus breakfast
  • It was a little heavy with all that stuff in it, but surprisingly comfortable on my shoulder.

While at my destination, I removed the camera equipment and used the ID to carry my laptop and lunch to work each day. Also, on the weekend I took out the Brain Cell and used the ID to carry my photo equipment, food, and water on a hike through the woods.

After one trip I am so far a very satisfied customer. The bag is versatile, well-designed, and a pleasure to use. How often do you get a new product, and in your first use of it not experience a single frustration? That was the ID for me, a truly exceptional product.”
    – D.P.

“It is impossible to describe the freedom of carrying just one bag.”

Below is an email and a picture we received from customer G.P. about his recent trip using the Aeronaut Convertible Maximum Carry-On Bag:

    “Hey guys,

I recently returned from a trip to Israel, my first extended trip with my
Aeronaut. I followed the ‘one-bag’ approach, carrying in my Aeronaut a
week’s worth of clothing, my Macbook, my PSP, and a variety of cords,
toiletries, and a magazine or two. I never felt as if I lacked anything and,
through some careful repacking, was even able to bring home a full
    complement of souvenirs.

It is impossible to describe the freedom of carrying just one bag. I was so
pleased that I took this picture right before I left.

    Many thanks,
    G.P.”

Customer Feedback on the New Buzz Sling Bag

Customer Mike F. wrote in to share with us his first impressions of the new Buzz Sling Bag bag he received today:

“The bigger Buzz is great! It feels like my beloved smaller buzz, but fits my MacBook Pro…. COOL!

What a wonderful bag — TOTALLY worth the wait! The interior laptop protector is brilliant! I love how it hugs the upper exposed corner of the MacBook Pro to protect that outside corner…

Also — I just noticed the waist band… this is great for riding as sometimes my old bag would slip and slide around.

Thanks for your attention to detail and design — you actually did succeed in making a bag bigger on the inside and still feel like the little Buzz!

Cool. Just in time for my vacation…

    Many thanks to y’all!”

Bad Weekend, Great Bag (And a Recipe for Pear Sorbet)

Customer Lisa K. wrote in to tell us about her 2006 Labor Day weekend, and also included an amazing recipe for Pear Sorbet.

“I think I’ve finally recovered from my rather bizarre Labour
Day weekend, enough to report on how great the Medium Cafe Shoulder bag is. I’m not going to go into the details about the fire I put out, after someone dropped a cigarette into the cedar chip mulch in front of the Shelbourne Plaza — or the unexpected two-mile hike when I missed my bus to the Saanich Fair — or what the bank said about the paycheque I tried to deposit just before the long weekend, since they didn’t involve the bag at all. I can’t even use the title “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, because apparently it’s already taken.

(Click through for the rest of the story.)

Suffice it to say that when I discovered that the jar of fireweed honey I’d
bought at the Moss Street Market had come open in my Tom Bihn bag, I was pretty well resigned to a bad situation getting worse. But after I got home, I was amazed to find that the bag, after more than two years of winter rains and trips through the washing machine, had retained almost all the honey. The superior quality of the cloth and the stitching meant that I was able to pour the honey into a stockpot, saving not just my hard-earned cash but the work of countless bees! I ended up boiling the honey in some water, and making pear sorbet with it, so the weekend immediately got better. Even after the clothesline snapped, dumping my laundry into the yard next door, the weekend seemed a little brighter. (The bag survived and is as good as new — and “the label” still delights my friends and co-workers.)

I am including the recipe, which is bound to be better if you get the honey
out of a jar, rather than a shoulder bag.”

    Cheers,

    Lisa K.

    Honey and Pear Sorbet

  • In a large pot, heat 1 cup of honey and 1 cup of water to boiling point. (You can also substitute organic sugar — make sure the crystals are dissolved in the boiling water.) Let simmer for 10 minutes, then set out to cool.
  • Peel and core 4 or 5 ripe Bartlett pears, and put in blender. Liquefy —
there should be about 4 cups in total. Pour in the cooled syrup, and blend
    until smooth.
  • You could use an ice-cream maker for the next step, but it seems to work just as well without. Put the mixture into a large bowl or pan, and place in the freezer. After 3-4 hours, it should be getting slushy. Mash it up with a fork or a pastry blender, and return it to the freezer. Repeat a couple of
more times, an hour or two later each time (to break up the ice crystals).
    Store in a covered container.
  • Serve in chilled glasses or bowls — makes 8-10 servings.
  • A Rave for the TB Customer Service Crew

Alan of Daily Gadget (who has previously reviewed Tom Bihn bags for his Daily Gadget blog and forums) recently blogged about the customer service he received from Tom Bihn Customer Service Associates Brian, Alex, and Amy:

“So earlier today I ordered a new green strap [for the Super Ego with a standard fastex clip. $5, no big deal, right?

Well, not even a hour goes by when I got a call from the company. They wanted to let me know that they could not get my strap out today, but they were going to make one for me tomorrow and send it out. They wanted to let me know as they always try to ship same day, and in this case they just couldn’t.

I was rather impressed. That’s a lot of attention for a $5 strap.

Tom Bihn already won me over as a customer with their excellent products, but they have made me an evangelist for their company with great customer service like this!”

    Customer Feedback: #2

Below is a sampling of some recent feedback from our customers. Want to let us know what you think? Email us (feedback@tombihn.com) or post in our forums.

“I’m a teacher and proud owner of an
    Empire Builder
    w/ Brain Cell for my
Powerbook G4 (17 inch), a Super Ego with Brain Cell for my MacBook, a
Brain Bag for both laptops, and
an Aeronaut for clothes when I stay over
at my girlfriends house, or am on the run.

Recently, there was a fire at my school which forced the evacuation of
my building. Once the blaze was put out, we found ourselves down one
Art room and up one burned Art room. As if the burned Art room wasn’t
enough, the District has shut the building down for weeks to months
because of the smoke damage. Now I work out of my bags in four
different classrooms. I’m proud to say that my Super Ego carries all my
    supplies with ease!

    Thanks for the great products!”

Just wanted to say I got my Freudian Slip the day after I ordered it and I absolutely love the thing. Works great. Don’t know how I got by without it.”

    “Hello Folks:

Thanks to the high quality + design of the Buzz bag, my sister decided to take it away from me when I visited her in Thailand. Well, she’s going to be in Germany for 5-6 months and I know that the bag would surely protect her laptop better than anything else.
Funny thing is that nobody back home (or even here in the States) realized that the Buzz was a laptop bag until I ask my sister if she wanted my laptop bag or not. :) Good job guys. Now I know it’s very unlikely that my sister’s laptop will be stolen in Germany.
Keep up the good work! ”

watch out in the coming weeks for another order.”

    Customer Feedback

Below is a sampling of some recent feedback from our customers. Want to let us know what you think? Email us (feedback@tombihn.com) or post in our forums.

“I spend 35 weeks+ on the road (air travel) per year and I just wanted to say think you for making very well made and thought out products. I own a Brain Bag and a Smart Alec and I cannot praise them highly enough. The Brain Bag is great for multi-week excursions while the Smart Alec is my everyday bag. Both bags are just about bulletproof and the layout is so good that I felt at home the first week. I had my previous bag for several years and could never find anything I liked better now I have two that are much better. Going through the airport is a breeze. My stuff is easy to get to and and even TSA can figure out where stuff is! Anyone who make my life easier is always welcome. I will recommend you to anyone.”

“I’ve had my Brain Bag for a couple years now; I have to say that it seems to be the first bad I’ve ever purchased that has had NO flaws show up over time.

It’s been around the world, it’s been used to carry big greasy motorcycle parts for repair (stains came out! thought Id ruined it) and I have two ‘monolith’ bags for my laptops, the snake charmer, and the organiser sleeve. It’s all great!

If I were given the power to make changes to the bag, I would add some way to hold the tummy strap out of the way when it’s not needed.

Still I have to agree with everyone else here – this is the best bad I’ve ever owned, and if it ever wears out (I’m not sure if it ever will!) I’ll buy another. Maybe in purple.” — M.O.

    “To whom it may concern,

I have been using my Super Ego and Brain Cell for about a month now, and it’s the best bag I’ve ever used. Very well crafted and thought out. Everything is ergonomic and designed for ease of use. I don’t really have any suggestions on how you could improve it (which is rare for me)…other than give it away. ” — B.W.

    “Hello!
I just wanted to thank you for my new Large Cafe Bag. It’s like you read my mind! All the best,” — C.G.

    — — — — — — — — —

“Bought your Large Cafe Bag (Cocoa/Wasabi) and, being based in the UK I expected a long wait. Not a bit of it. Delivery was fast (4 days from order) and the bag itself is sublimely brilliant.
Very well done to you all! Many thanks,” — N.M.

Customer Update: Carry-On Luggage in EU and U.S.

Customer Cobos posted an update on carry-on luggage restrictions in the EU in our Tom Bihn Forums:

“It seems the EU/EC has agree on new stricter permanent hand-luggage rules. These include severe limitations on what liquids you are allowed to bring onboard and stricter size limitations on the luggage pieces you can bring. Though the baggage rules will not apply until sometime in 2007. BUT, they give maximum dimensions of: 56 x 45 x 25 cm which means the Aeronaut is still the perfect size ! All hail the supreme Aeronaut:-)

Customer Moriond posted their experiences using the Aeronaut in recent International travel:

“Just a couple of comments: apart from being useful in and of themselves, the packing cubes really make inspection of baggage go faster, because the contents are visible through the mesh in the large and small cubes, and if inspectors do need to unzip and examine the items in the cubes, everything stays organized and can be quickly zipped up again and closed. And the packing cubes are sized exactly for the Aeronaut. (I’m speaking about the random checks that sometimes occur regardless of what you’re carrying — not when you have problematic contents that show up in the X-ray scans). Secondly, the Aeronaut is really distinctive and easy to spot on the luggage conveyor belt. And although it always seems to be dwarfed by neighboring luggage, it holds a surprising amount of stuff.”
