“Just wanted to share an anecdote about my new(-to-me) Tom Bihn Swift.
I recently bought an ever-so-slightly-used Swift plus accessories from another raveler and when I got it was unpleasantly surprised to find that everything reeked of cigarette smoke. (Don’t be hatin’ – it was stored in a different household from the lovely non-smoking seller, who had no idea that household’s odor would be so penetrating and pervasive.)
I had heard several ravelers mention that storing “smoky” yarn or knitting-bags with a dryer-sheet did the trick for them, so I gave it a try. Tah-dah! – floral-scented cigarette smoke. /:~\
As a last-ditch effort, I wrote to Tom Bihn asking if they had any advice. They turned me on to a product they carry called MiraZyme, which is actually for removing mildew and musty smells from their nylon bags but that might work for my issue. Was I shocked when the following day I received an email explaining that they had gone ahead and tested it on the cork for me and they could report that it was safe for use on that material! (what proactive customer service!)
So, I bought some (well, I added a few other items to my order, because the MiraZyme was only two dollars and I had to justify the shipping, right?). ;~) I just tried it out last night and I am pleased to report that it totally did the trick! Everything smells just fresh-as-a-daisy. When I was done there was a slight blue-green tint to the water, so something did bleed, but it might’ve been the suede-like insert in the Organizer Wallet. (Also, for those of you who might be wondering if the cork is safe to get wet? I soaked it and it dried like a dream. Looks and feels just like it did prior to its bath!)
I plan on shooting the Swift with a bit of Nikwax (their water-resistant refresher) just in case, but overall I’m deliriously pleased with my first-ever Tom Bihn experience. (or does this count as an “adventure?” Maybe not as exciting as most Tom Bihn users, but plenty thrilling for my life!) ;~D”

The next bag Rudi has begun joining is the Ristretto for 11″ Air. If you were to build a house one side at a time – the front, the back the sides – installing the windows, the doors, even the interior cabinets as you build each side, “joining” would be putting all the pieces together into a whole house. That’s pretty much how we build our bags.

“I have one major complaint with Tom Bihn’s products. They are so good that I’ve ordered too many (not really, you can never own too much Tom Bihn stuff). Let’s start with the shipping—the only things that are padded are the bags. Unlike so many other on line add ons, the shipping fees are always accurate and honest. Secondly, there is no long wait and continual checking necessary; the shipping information comes quickly; in fact, it comes more quickly than any other company I’ve ever dealt with.
Now to my complaint—it takes an extra day of planning to decide which Tom Bihn items I’m taking on the next trip. I enjoy Maverick’s videos and they are well done and accurate. I only wish he’d make a series on “take this for this trip or that trip.” Alas, I’m rambling. In short: I deal with no other company in the U.S. that has better products, better customer service and a more genuine attitude toward creating satisfied customers. Even my cat Grendyl (see Riley’s friends) has a difficult time deciding which product to nap on. Presently he favors the Western Flyer but I just ordered a new Ristretto for my MacBook Air which may become his favorite after he explores it for a day or two.
