Update: Ristretto for iPad and Cache for iPad

The Ristretto for iPad is close to selling out. Our Seattle factory is making more, but it will be about three weeks before they’re ready. If you’d like a Black/Steel, Black/Wasabi, or Plum/Wasabi Ristretto before then, we’d recommend ordering now.

The Cache for iPad in both Horizontal and Vertical has been cut. Backorders will be shipping this week and early next week, and it should be in-stock by late next week.

Photos of our iPad in the Cache will be posted on the blog tomorrow.

Introducing the Co-Pilot Personal Carry-On Travel Bag

TOM BIHN Co-Pilot Personal Carry-On Travel Bag

The Co-Pilot is a small, carry-on sized travel bag sized to fit the essentials – the items that you want close at hand and easily accessible during your flight or at the airport. It’s a natural compliment to our larger Aeronaut, Tri-Star, or Western Flyer carry-on travel bags.

New Video: TOM BIHN Seattle Factory (by Dan Bihn)

Tom’s brother Dan recently came out to Seattle for a visit – and to film our factory in action. We hope you’ll enjoy this glimpse into how TOM BIHN bags get made.

Watch the video at YouTube or click play below. Or, watch a high-resolution version of the video sized specifically for your iPad.

Dan is an independent technical marketing engineer in Fort Collins, Colorado. He describes himself as a “digital storyteller for a high-energy, sustainable future.” He is also a photojournalist for Solar Today Magazine, speaks fluent Japanese, and can use chopsticks very well. Visit Dan’s website at DanBihn.com (it runs in the family).

Dan shot the video with a Canon 5D Mk II with a variety of lenses. All the footage was shot at 1080p HD — and as soon as the internet catches up, we’ll post that version, too.

Note: In this photo, the padded top of the iPad compartment is tucked back so that you can see the iPad. When fully inside of the Ristretto for iPad, the iPad is protected by padding from all sides – including the top.

    Gadgeteer Review: Ristretto for iPad

TOM BIHN Ristretto for iPad reviewed by The Gadgeteer

    Excerpt:
“The Tom Bihn Ristretto for iPad/Netbooks holds just what I need: iPad, keychain flashlight, USB flash drive, zippered pouch with basic first aid supplies, second pouch with various loose items (eye drops, screwdrivers), Verizon MiFi 2200 EVDO device, Bluetooth headset, Leatherman, two pens, headphones, and a ThinkOutside fold-up bluetooth keyboard (which works with the iPad).”

    New: Aeronaut with compression straps

Tom has updated the Aeronaut with the addition of removable compression straps in the main compartment. The compression straps attach to the main compartment via Gatekeeper clips and can be easily removed or re-attached. Compression straps offer yet another way to pack and organize clothing inside of the Aeronaut. The price of the Aeronaut has increased from $200 to $220. All Aeronauts now have compression straps.

Note: we do have a few Aeronauts without compression straps in Indigo/Steel available at the previous price of $200. If you would like one of those bags, please email Katy to arrange for an order.

The Aeronaut in colors Crimson/Steel, Steel/Steel, Steel/Solar, Black/Steel, and Black/Solar is available for backorder and ships by mid-May. Our Seattle factory is cutting the fabric for the next batch of Aeronauts today.

New Stuff Debuting Next Week (not April Fool’s)

While the Wheeled Organizer Pouches were an April Fool’s joke, we’re serious that a number of new bags and design updates are ready to debut next week. Stay tuned!

NEW! TOM BIHN Wheeled Organizer Pouches

We’re proud to announce a new bag – Wheeled Organizer Pouches. The new Wheeled Organizer Pouches took five years (and several visits to a local garden/hardware supply store) for Tom to design. Features handy shoulder strap attachment points should you choose to carry it as a shoulder bag. Available for pre-order; ships within one business day. $45 with $100 UPS Ground shipping.

A big thank you to everyone on the TOM BIHN Forums who made this design possible – especially user “Farmer John”.
