OBOW Visits the TOM BIHN Seattle factory (pictures)

One Bag, One World visits the TOM BIHN Seattle factory

“A visit to the Tom Bihn factory is a curious blend of past and present. Small shops where the managers and workers have been together for long periods of time and the owner/designer is always on premises are increasingly rare, at least in the US. I found seemingly happy workers cutting nylon and stitching bag parts. And why not? They had plants, windows, and a management team they seemed to know and trust. [Darcy's note: at the TOM BIHN offices, we have the same things - except our plants probably wish they lived at the factory.] Some workers are rotated so the tasks don’t get too repetitive, but with the tremendous variety of TB products it’s doubtful anyone gets too bored. The materials and designs are modern and TB has a huge, interactive web presence, but the factory ambience is definitely from another century – in a good way.”

Our Seattle Factory Showroom is open the first Tuesday of each month. That means we’ll be open tomorrow – from 12:00pm – 6:00pm. If you’re hoping to get a glimpse of our factory in action (the Showroom is right next door to the factory) please come before 2:00pm. See you then!

About.com Europe Travel: Putting the Tri-Star to the test

About.com Europe Travel Blog Reviews the TOM BIHN Tri-Star Carry-On Bag

“I’ve got a Tom Bihn Tri-Star packed with the technology stuff we need. We’ll be giving the bag a real test this time; we’re staying in Europe through Christmas.

The bag is also loaded with the book I’ll be reading on the plane, Never Trust a Thin Cook, Eric Dregni’s cultural oddessy set around Modena as well as a box of No Jet Lag, something that seems to ease the pain of changing time zones for us.

You can follow us by reading this blog, or by following our frequent mini-updates on twitter.”
