“We didn’t really plan it but me, my spouse, and my son all boarded with some version of the Tom Bihn Western Flyer. Wife and son checked (not too heavy)
bags, but opted for the WF as their carryon. My son has the one with
backpack straps, my wife iis carrying the original prototype that Tom sent
me long ago and I have the standard sling version. They fit great under
regional jet seats or even perpindicularly in the overhead. With my Cafe bag
and netbook removed the WF feels great at under 10 pounds. So far so good,
but unfortunately no free WiFi at DFW.”

“the klm/northwest agent at the gate at washington dulles international airport stopped me, suspecting that my aeronaut was too big to carry onboard. he wanted to check that the aeronaut was within the sizing guidelines, and i said: absolutely! after he was satisfied, i told him that tom bihn designed the aeronaut specifically to comply with airline sizing guidelines for carry on baggage. i asked him if he wouldn’t mind me getting a picture of him verifying the bag fits, and he agreed!”

Below are a selection of the comments posted in response to the TUAW Road Test Review of our Checkpoint Flyer:
“I’ve owned a Tom Bihn SuperEgo for two years and absolutely love it. It is clearly too big for some people’s needs, but I travel to Europe a lot, and it is the ideal business carry on. It swallows not just my laptop and all its gear, but phone, kindle, headphones, portable amp, iPod, etc. and has room to spare for books and other work-related materials. Construction, as noted here, is first-rate.”
“I have the messenger bag with a brain cell going on 7 years and it is holding up amazingly well. Looks new. Construction and build quality are amazing. I would love to have a reason to buy the checkpoint bag but my current bag is in too good a shape to justify – maybe for Xmas. My guess is that this bag is well worth the $220.”
“tom bihn makes great bags! i love the attention to small details, quality and unparalleled customer service. indeed, they do last forever. either you get over the guilt in buying the next one, and the next one, and the next one, or you find dear family and friends to make use of your earlier purchases to get over that guilt!”
“I just traveled with the “Packing Cube Backpack” for the first time. What a fantastic bag! It allowed me to carry magazines and things in it at the airport and to place my blazer inside it as I made my way through security at the airport. I’m very happy with the size of the bag, as it holds what I need, can be stowed in my larger bag when necessary, and is a nice trim size and weight.” –Gus
“The Checkpoint Flyer laptop case that comes as part of the full Checkpoint Flyer briefcase is a work of art in itself. In order to meet the TSA requirements, it is just the size of your laptop, no bigger. Tom Bihn makes the laptop cases in sizes that are specifically designed for all members of the MacBook line, from the MacBook Air to the 17″ MacBook Pro. To keep your MacBook safe from bumps and drops, the laptop cases are made from 8 mm thick closed-cell foam and covered with ballistic nylon. On the inside, there’s a brushed tricot liner that coddles your laptop.”
