Love Your Ruck’s Sac & Yarn Stuff Sack

An email we received from Amy regarding her recent order:

Dear Tom and Crew:

WOW!!! I just received the Ruck’s Sac and Yarn Stuff Sack I had ordered last weekend, and used them for the first time on my commute into work this morning. They are fabulous!

I am a sock knitting fanatic and the Yarn Stuff Sack is the perfect size for my sock project(s). My sharp double-pointed needles don’t poke through the fabric either. When my train ride is over, the Yarn Stuff Sack fits nicely into the Ruck’s Sac.

The Ruck’s Sac is probably the BEST backpack I have ever owned! My mom was a seamstress, so workmanship matters to me and I am very picky. The quality is impressive and the bag is so sturdy. It will be great for carry-on items when I travel abroad. The Ruck’s Sac is a lot roomier than I had envisioned – all the stuff I haul to the office each day fits, with plenty of room for more! Now, I don’t have to bring a separate purse and knitting bag and lunch bag…it’s all tailored down to the Ruck’s Sac. I am convinced that the Ruck’s Sac was designed especially for my body frame (5’2″ tall, 100 pounds).

Thank you for creating such great products! I am planning to order the knitting bag very soon.

Cheers!”

“I just received my Smart Alec (steel with solar interior–beautiful) last week after following the package’s progress on UPS. I was crushed when I missed the delivery twice, so I waited 45 min to pick it up at the UPS center, and it was entirely worth it. Thanks to Maverick’s great videos, I also picked up a packing cube and an organizer wallet, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the purchases.” – Posted by willber in the TOM BIHN Forums.

“I’m very fussy about the bag I travel with. It has to be a shoulder bag. Dragging a trolley bag does not work for me (too slow weaving through the crowds, too awkward on steps, and makes you look like an air stewardess).

The ideal bag has to fit under the seat in front of me (means you can get a seat right up the front of the plane once all these priority boarding fools have taken all the space in the overhead locker).

It’s quite difficult to find just the right bag. My old bag (Slappa) was no longer available; it served me well but has now come to the end of its travelling life after two years of abuse. So after a bit of research I decided to import a bag from the states, the Tom Bihn – Empire Builder. I’m taking it on its inaugural flight next week!”

Practical Travel Gear reviews the Packing Cubes

“They have good YKK zippers and ripstock nylon fabric. They’re mesh on one side so damp clothes don’t build up mildew. Here’s the real difference though: they’re not made in China. If you want to put your own personal stimulus plan in place and buy American, you can do so at Tom Bihn without paying a premium. The cubes are $15 to $18 each and should last a decade or two.”

flitcraft: In praise of steel….

“What could be more boring than gray? Not as assertive as black, not as striking as brighter colors, it’s the blah middling choice for those who’s rather not choose. At least, that’s what I always thought. I never gave steel a second thought as a color.

But was I ever wrong! I just got the Cafe Bag in steel (with an olive interior) and it is drop-dead gorgeous. It’s a chameleon of a color, depending on lighting and what you’re wearing it with. Worn over dark teal or hunter green, it takes on some of that tone and looks slightly teal-gray. Worn with burgundy or chocolate brown, I swear it’s slate blue-grey. Cloudy daylight tends to bring out the tealish tones, and sunshine the grey-blue tones. Fluorescent versus incandescent also changes the hue.

This is not your father’s boring gray. It’s a sophisticated, mercurial, subtle color. And it’s my new favorite, hands down.”
