A Rave for the Empire Builder

Seen in the TOM BIHN forums:

“I have looked and purchased and tried and sold and looked and purchased and sold at least thirty briefcase bags over the last 10 years. All I was searching for was the EMPIRE!!

Upon opening the box and feeling the bag, I could tell the quality. And, even though I was unsure that all my doctoral school stuff would fit plus the stuff from my full time professor stuff——-I was amazed that everything fit with room to spare!!”

Back To School 2007 With Futurelooks: TOM BIHN Bags

Futurelooks has included TOM BIHN bags in their back to school feature, which lists items that “should make life easier for you on the road to academia.”

“You’ve got a lot of stuff to lug around from class to class, so you might as well do it in style! Tom Bihn bags boast some of the best-looking and most functional designs around, and because the build quality is so excellent, you can be sure that these laptop bags will survive quite the beating semester after semester. No more leaving your books on the ground as your cheapie bag breaks and spills yours books all over the sidewalk.”

Check out the full Futrelooks Back To School guide. Featured in the guide are the TOM BIHN Zephyr briefcase and the Buzz sling bag (which was reviewed by Futurelooks a few weeks ago).

The TOM BIHN Zephyr Laptop Briefcase

The Smart Alec in Inishmore

The TOM BIHN Smart Alec Backpack in Inishmore

“I just wanted to say how much I am loving my Smart Alec and Vertical Brain Cell. I am a Theatre Stage Manager from Australia currently on tour in Europe. I had had several laptop backpacks and hated them all. Too bulky, too many pockets and not enough room to cart things if I wasn’t carrying my laptop.

I am constantly changing between venues, rehearsal rooms, hotels, etc. I wanted something that would carry my laptop safely in the back of a truck, but also allow me to carry costumes, props, hiking gear in the same bag.

After much research I bought a Smart Alec online, never having seen a Tom Bihn bag in person. I carry it absolutely everywhere with me – sometimes with my laptop nestled in its Brain Cell when I am working and sometimes full of lunch, water bottles and wet weather gear when I am trekking about.

You can see in one of the photos how much I manage to fit in – an iron fits just nicely on top of a load washing!! In fact I talk about my backpack so much that my friends have taken to asking how the “tom bihn” is going! I could not be happier!!” — B.S.

The Super Ego: A Winner in Las Vegas

In 2005, Imago Metrics evaluated our Super Ego messenger bag. Imago Metrics recently sent the above picture to us, showing that their Super Ego is still very much in use.

“We were in Las Vegas for a conference and of course, the Super Ego came along as the carry-on.
Unfortunately it came back home a little lighter for ‘cash contents’ – but as always , Tom Bihn’s Super Ego was the real winner. The smile is saying “Thanks Tom”.”

Macworld recommends: TOM BIHN Brain Cell

Sleeves in Brief: Rigid cases
By Dan Frakes
“I’ve always been impressed by the quality of Tom Bihn bags, and the Brain Cell is no exception. Specifically designed to clip into Tom Bihn bags, it nevertheless works well on its own or inside other bags and backpacks. Made of 500-denier Cordura nylon with rigid side panels and interior padding, the Brain Cell offers impressive protection. Even the bottom of the sleeve is rock-solid, with only the top edge omitting some sort of rigid plate. (That edge instead offers two layers of foam padding, one on each closing flap; the two flaps secure using Velcro.)”

Plastic bags are killing us (Use a resuable bag instead)

From Salon:

Plastic bags are killing us
The most ubiquitous consumer item on Earth, the lowly plastic bag is an environmental scourge like none other, sapping the life out of our oceans and thwarting our attempts to recycle it.

Read the full article at Salon and consider using a reusable bag like our Utility Tote for groceries. Our Utility Tote is made out of 1000 denier Cordura, is made in our Seattle factory, and is a real reusable alternative to plastic shopping bags. It’ll last you a decade (or two.)
