alt="David Milch on the set of Deadwood" width="228" height="162" />
A fascinating interview and
profile
of David Milch from the New Yorker
.
If you haven’t yet seen Milch’s Deadwood, a Western (that is, unless you are a
fan of Cormac McCarthy’s books, not the kind of Western you’re thinking of)
that airs on HBO, I recommend that you do. The first season is out on DVD and is available for
sale through Amazon
or for rent through Netflix.

Andru Edwards of GearLive on The Chris Pirillo Show

Check out this interview
with Andru Edwards
of Gearlive on the Chris Pirillo Show.
Andru mentions his Tom Bihn Brain Cell
(our hard-shell laptop case) and talks about the overwhelming traffic to Gearlive following
their post on how to beat a traffic ticket using Google Maps, and all the latest gadget news.

Back in April, Andru, along with his wife Monica and their son Alijah, came to our Seattle
store to interview Tom and check out our full line of products. Andru also recently posted his
review of the Brain Cell.

Schwarztech reviews the Monolith

“The Monolith costs $45, but is well worth the price. Containing 8mm thick
padding reinforced by 4mm of corrugated plastic, the Monolith provides all the
protection needed in a laptop case. A sturdy zipper adorns the top of the case.
Underneath this zipper is more padding, so the laptop is protected
on all sides. Altogether, the laptop should be protected from all but the most
major abuse.”

Notebookreview.com reviews the Super Ego

alt="The inside of the Super Ego" width="180" height="123" />
“The Super Ego is a very well constructed bag, thoughtfully designed
messenger style bag that provides oodles of room. It’s probably a bit
big for anyone with a 12" or smaller notebook, your notebook might drown
in the room available and you’d have to dig to find it. But if you’ll
be carrying text books and a small laptop, or just a really big laptop,
or just a lot of text books and no laptop (you get my point) then this
bag will fit the bill. The bag is pricey, it starts at $140. That’s
the price you pay for customization, a satisfaction guaranteed warranty,
high quality materials and small company that designs and produces their
own bags locally. If you buy the bag, I recommend saving on weight and
going with the plastic buckle, the choice of colors — well that’s up to
you.”

Customer story: Using the Brain Bag in India after the tsunami

One of our good customers sent in this account of being in the
midst of the tsunami disaster:

The day after I reached Madras (India) we were hit by
the tsunami. Fortunately, my family and friends were
not directly affected. Many people I know lost all
their belongings, but were just happy that their
families were all safe.

So anyway, I spent part of the remainder of my holiday
at relief camps and trying to help the thousands of
displaced people. Of course my
Brain Bag
went with me every step of the way.

Perfect…

A spare set of clothes, a towel and my machete in the
back. Emergency medical supplies and as much clean
water as I could carry in the front. My bag was loaded
onto buses (read as – thrown on and off), used as a
pillow (and a chair and a foot rest and and and) and
flown to India and back, and is still in wonderful
condition. You can now see some scuffing on the
underside, but I have had it a year and every other
bag I have owned has fallen apart in half that time.
Thanks again for making the world’s best backpack.

Please, please, don’t ever stop making the Brain Bag, I
will always want one. When this one dies, you can bet I
will buy another and another and another.

In the one year or so since I got my first Tom Bihn bag, I
have baught a Brain Bag, three Cafe Bags, a Freudian Slip, a
Snake Charmer, a Monolith, and two Empire Builders.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Darcy recommends: Fifty Writing Tools

I’m always trying to improve my writing, grammar, and spelling (my Achilles heel) skills,
and the Poynter Centerpiece
Fifty
Writing Tools
has been invaluable.

The tools are broken up into fifty lessons which makes using them easy, especially
for those with a busy schedule. Try reading one lesson per day and implementing
what you’ve learned in the next email you write.

Poynter also has great columns and mailing lists with topics ranging from
management skills
to how to
beat the blues
when you return to work
vacation. You can spend a whole day there
reading interesting articles and feel really good about what you’ve learned afterwards.

The Buzz reviewed at LIVEdigitally

alt="The Buzz" width="150" height="200" />
The Obstacle Course Results:

The Capacity Test: This bag did well with the capacity.
I would have liked a bit more storage, but that would have ruined
the design and agility of the bag.

One Hour Endurance Test: Passed with flying colors.

The Water Test: Rubber zipper coverings proved to hold up to their
expectation, the cardboard was dry as a bone after being doused with
some H2O.

The Function vs. Style Test: This bag carried all that I needed
comfortably and in style. Tom Bihn rides the teeter-totter quite well
on the balance between function and style.

The Female Test: Three out of three females gave me the go ahead to
wear this bag in public. They said it looked good and I looked good in it.
I did not, however, get any phone digits because of the bag. Good thing
getting cute girl phone digits isn’t part of the Laptop Case Obstacle Course.
